It seems as though Salamence is so rare that the Pokemon does not actually appear on the map at all despite being one of the stronger creatures in the game. That means that players who want to add this Pokemon to their team are going to have to be a little more clever about their efforts. While Salamence does not appear on the map, its basic unevolved version Bagon can be tracked down.
Bagon is a very rare Pokemon itself, but players can maximize their chances of coming across it by waiting for specific situations. For one, Bagon seems to prefer wind weather so players will have a much better chance of finding one if winds speeds pick up in your area. Just go outside and use a lure in order to see if a Bagon will show up. Another good idea is to wait until Niantic does another big community event featuring the Pokemon. They did one last year that drastically increased the chances of finding Bagon.
Once players have managed to get their hands on a Bagon, they will need to spend their time leveling it up. Once at a certain level Bagon will turn into the pretty powerful Shelgon. After that players will need to feed their new Shelgon 100 pieces of candy to get it to evolve again and become the coveted Salamence who is both a dragon and flying type Pokemon.
