Pokémon Scarlet and Violet both contain exclusive monsters, with the former featuring the Rock/Ground-type Larvitar. For those new to the series, this baby Pokémon is the first stage of the powerful Pseudo-Legendary Tyranitar. While not categorized as official Legendary Pokémon, these monsters feature an incredibly high base stat total and are, thus, sought after by Trainers. Players that wish to capture a Larvitar and add it to their team, will need to search in caves and shady areas.

Despite the Pokédex entry saying that Larvitar is "Rarely seen," Trainers can encounter the Pokémon in six different locations. These areas are the Alfornada Cavern, Asado Desert, Dalizapa Passage, East Province Area 3, South Province Area 5, and the West Province Area 1. Players that enjoyed Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, may have encountered Larvitar previously in the Grand Underground. While seemingly weak, this Pokémon is worth the effort to train and evolve in Scarlet and Violet.

Throughout their journey, Trainers will often come across Larvitar with a wide range of levels. Players may want to add the Pokémon to their team early, covering the weaknesses of their other monsters. As showcased by PanFro Games on YouTube, there is one area in the game that has low-level Larvitar. Trainers will need to travel east from Mesagoza, following the path across to the second bridge leading south. Larvitar can be found near the spiral-shaped mountain on the map. In the video, PanFro Games gives players the tip of eating a sandwich to raise the odds of finding Ground-type or Rock-type Pokémon. This is because Larvitar has both of these typings, later changing into the Rock/Dark-type Tyranitar.

Three characteristics of Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon are that they start off weak, require 1,250,000 experience to reach their final form, and have a three-stage evolution line. Larvitar has a base stat total of 300, but Tyranitar has a staggering base stat total of 600. The first evolution occurs when Larvitar reaches 30 and becomes a Pupitar. Players will have to wait quite a while to obtain a Tyranitar, as Pupitar evolves at level 55.

As Larvitar only appears in Scarlet, owners of Pokémon Violet will need to acquire the monster through different methods. Thanks to the new multiplayer features added in Generation IX, Trainers can travel to another player's world and catch version exclusive Pokémon. Additionally, Larvitar can be traded from Scarlet to Violet. Having a new way to obtain version-exclusive monsters is exciting and expands upon the normal trading method. Larvitar is not a monster that Trainers will not want to miss catching in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
