As painful as it may be to say, summer is rapidly approaching its end. Time passes the same in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as it does in the real world, and soon many people will have a lot less free time. Students and teachers head back to school soon (maybe), or at the very least will participate in online classes. As catching various critters is so central to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, now is the time to catch them before life gets too hectic and they disappear at the end of the season.
Take for example, the giant snakehead. The name is deceptive. It is not a snake at all, but rather a fish that can be caught in the game (and real life too). It also has a whole body, not just a giant head. Its head isn’t really even that big in proportion to its body. Who named this thing?
Catching the Giant Snakehead in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
In any case, the giant snakehead is easy to catch once it shows up. It only appears in ponds but is easy to spot. Players should look for the biggest shadow possible between the hours of 9AM-4PM.
Getting it to show up is the real challenge. Only so many fish will spawn at any given time, and the giant snakehead has competition with a few other types of fish for space in the pond. Those who wish to catch it have a few options. The first and most apparent is to craft a bunch of bait from manila clams. Throw bait into the pond until that large shadow shows up, then break out the fishing rod. A more ridiculous option is to create a bunch of ponds with the Island Designer app after purchasing the waterscaping permit. Players can also try their luck on other islands such as the ones reached with Nook Miles tickets. The right type of island will have at least one pond, and since the island is smaller, there is less running involved.
Selling the giant snakehead to Nook’s Cranny nets the player 5,500 bells, or C.J. will buy it for 8,250 bells. To its credit, the giant snakehead is decently valuable. Still, there are other fish that are much more profitable.
The fish is in season from June to August in the northern hemisphere. Those living in the southern hemisphere must wait till December to February to catch it on their islands. One wonders where the giant snakehead spends its time in the interim.
