In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, certain Pokémon can't be caught in the wild simply by walking through the tall grass, and Burmy is one of them. This bug-type Pokémon is unique in more than one way. Burmy has an interesting "Cloak" system that allows it to adopt different types in battle based on the last region in which it fought. This, in addition to its powerful evolutions, makes Burmy a powerful and unique creature that Pokémon BDSP players will likely be excited to add to their collection.

Burmy has three different cloaks in Pokémon BDSP and they don't do much for the Pokémon at first. The cloaks really affect Burmy once it evolves into Wormadam. The cloaks are Plant Cloak, Sandy Cloak, and Trash Cloak. Plant Cloak is set by fighting outdoors or in tall grass and makes Wormadam Bug/Grass-type. Sandy Cloak is set by fighting in caves or snowstorms and makes Wormadam Bug/Ground-type. Trash Cloak is set by fighting in a building and makes Wormadam Bug/Steel-type. This allows players to get creative when preparing for upcoming Pokémon gym battles or other strong encounters by setting the cloak to the strongest possible option for the battle.

The trickiness of catching a Burmy in Pokémon BDSP comes from its unique encounter location, and what players have to do to battle one. Instead of just roaming around the tall grass, players will have to catch one by looking for it in Honey Trees. To do so, players will need to get to Floaroma Town and help out the NPC in the meadow. After doing so, players will be able to buy honey, which is what they will need to catch any of the Pokémon that must be caught in Honey Trees, including Burmy.

How to Find & Catch Burmy in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Pokemon BDSP Honey Tree

Players should buy several jars of honey in Pokémon BDSP so they can catch the wide variety of Pokémon that are found in the trees and make sure they have enough to catch a Burmy. Once the honey has been purchased, players can find one of the big trees with golden-yellow leaves and apply the honey to the tree. This honey will stay on the tree for 24 hours, and Pokémon can begin to spawn on it after six hours.

There is an 11-16% chance that a Burmy will spawn depending on the tree. This means it will probably take a few tries to get a Burmy to spawn, so players should consider applying honey to multiple trees and checking them all after six hours. Once players encounter Burmy in Pokémon BDSP, they can battle and catch it using Pokémon BDSP's different Pokéballs like the Net Ball, which is especially effective against Bug-types.
