Fans who ordered the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake online may have to wait a bit longer for the game to reach them, thanks to a new policy put in place by Amazon. This new (and hopefully temporary) policy is a result of the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19, or Novel Coronavirus, a potentially deadly respiratory infection that has spread to massive numbers across the globe in recent months.

In addition to schools and businesses all around the world closing their doors to prevent further spread of the illness, this pandemic has wreaked untold havoc on the entertainment industry, and not even video games are immune. Both the Game Developers Conference and E3 have been canceled this year, and it is believed that the outbreak will delay the planned releases of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X this Holiday season.

Now even online retailer Amazon is feeling this impact, which Cheap Ass Gamer pointed out on his Twitter page yesterday. He shared a link to a news report explaining that until further notice, Amazon will only be accepting high-priority items such as medical supplies and cleaning products. Unfortunately, video games like the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake don’t fall under that category. You can check out the full tweet below:

This isn’t the first time the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake has seen a delay. In addition to the countless years of speculation about its existence prior to its official announcement at E3 2015, the game’s release date was previously pushed back from March to April to allow the developers some extra time to polish the finished product. However, despite these setbacks Final Fantasy 7 Remake itself is still set to make its planned release on April 10, it’s just that Amazon won’t be able to ship their copies on time.

While it may be frustrating for some gamers to have to wait even longer for titles like the long-in-development Final Fantasy 7 Remake to reach them, public safety should always take top priority. The Coronavirus is now a major, far-reaching pandemic, and Amazon is doing what it believes is necessary in order to prevent the further spread of a disease that has already claimed the lives of over 8,000 people in the span of a few months alone. Hopefully, players who ordered Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Amazon won’t have to wait too long for their copies, but for the rest of us, the game will be released on April 10.
