Final Fantasy 7 Remake may already be a remaster of one of the most beloved games in history, but that hasn't prevented Square Enix from remastering it again as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and from showing off an extended trailer displaying its newest features and upgraded graphic integrity. Intergrade will bring Final Fantasy 7 Remake into the more powerful graphic world of the PlayStation 5, and bring not only updated graphics, but the return of the infamous Materia-pilfering ninja Yuffie.

As a recreation of one of the most iconic and popular RPGs ever made, Final Fantasy 7 Remake had a lot to live up to when it was announced back in 2015, after some years of speculation over whether or not the remake was just a fan fantasy. While the game was slated for release on the PlayStation 4, after five years of development pushed its scheduled release date closer and closer to the release of the PlayStation 5, there was significant speculation as to whether or not the game would be pushed back for the new console. This would've necessitated a significant graphical and structural overhaul of the game to suit the new console's more powerful hardware, but instead, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released for the PlayStation 4 in April 2020 to give the fans what they'd been waiting years for, while the PS5 version was promised at a later date.

While the PlayStation 4 version of the game was hardly a slouch in the graphics department, Intergrade will take advantage of the PlayStation 5's significantly more powerful hardware to polish and refine the game's graphics even further. An extended trailer released by Square Enix on YouTube shows off Intergrade's updated look, with improved ambient lighting and reflections, sharper textures, and softer fog effects. Intergrade also boasts some new features that affect gameplay, including a Graphics mode that favors 4k resolution and a Performance mode that sticks with a 60 fps framerate, and the addition of a Normal (Classic) difficulty setting. But all that aside, what fans of the original are most likely looking forward to seeing is the introduction of fan-favorite Yuffie, who makes her first appearance in the remake in a standalone episode alongside fellow ninja and new character Sonon Kusakabe. It is extremely important to note, however, that the Yuffie episode is separate paid DLC to Intergrade. To see how the two versions stack up against each other, and to see Yuffie and Sonon in action, check out the extended features video below:

Yuffie and Sonon are definitely the most welcome additions in Intergrade, as the graphical updates are almost exclusive aesthetic improvements that do little to enhance gameplay and are there to show off the incredible graphical power of both the PlayStation 5 and Square Enix's graphics department. But it's also worth mentioning that all this graphic overhaul makes the new Photo mode worth fiddling around with, because it's not enough to see Cloud's infamous disguise in higher definition if a player can't snag a few keepsake photos.

Anyone worrying about shelling out extra money after dropping over $60 for the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake only a few months ago can rest easy — Intergrade is free to anyone who already has the PS4 version. However, the Yuffie episode is paid DLC and is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, which means PS4 players who can't or don't want to make the upgrade are out of luck.
