One of the lesser-known characters from the Final Fantasy 7 spin-off novels will be appearing in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, as a fan on Twitter has spotted Kyrie Canaan from the Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story book in new footage from the game. The story of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will expand on the lore of the original game, even though it will only focus on the Midgar portion of Final Fantasy 7.

The recent demo of Final Fantasy 7 Remake revealed that some elements of the spin-off games, movies, and novels are still considered to be canon. The recent assassination attempt on the life of President Shinra is mentioned, even though it happened in an obscure Japan-only mobile game called Before Crisis, while the description of the Buster Sword refers to the weapon's importance in Crisis Core. The developers of Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been coy as to what exactly is still considered to be part of the canon, but co-director Tetsuya Nomura did confirm that characters from The Kids Are Alright spin-off novel will appear in the game.

It seems that one of The Kids Are Alright characters has already appeared in promotional footage of the game. An eagle-eyed fan on Twitter called @Ronie_6 has spotted Kyrie Canaan from The Kids Are Alright in the background of a shot of one of the Midgar train stations. The character model matches the drawing of Kyrie that appears in The Kids Are Alright.

Kyrie Canaan is a pickpocket and swindler who lives in Midgar. She belongs to a family of thieves, but they show compassion to a young boy named Evan Townshend, who is left all alone following the destruction of Midgar when it's almost struck by Meteor. Evan is the protagonist of The Kids Are Alright and the novel begins during the events of Final Fantasy 7. Evan starts a detective agency with Kyrie and some of his buddies, but revelations about his parentage soon put him on a collision course with the Shinra Corporation and a mysterious being known as Kadaj, leading into the events of Advent Children. Kyrie's duplicitous work means that she will likely cross Cloud Strife and his friends at some point, especially as they will spend a lot of time in the Midgar slums.

The Kids Are Alright is one of the lesser-known Final Fantasy 7 spin-offs, but it's one of the best ones in terms of quality. Evan and Kyrie's road trip story is a breath of fresh air for the franchise and it's awesome to see The Kids Are Alright cast being given a role in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, even as an easter egg. as it might prompt more people to check out the book for themselves.
