One of the greatest successes of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is that it wasn't afraid to take risks and change up the established order of things. There were some major changes in the narrative from the original FF7, which has since led fans to theorize about more differences from the original that might occur in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. One of the biggest theories out there is that Sephiroth, the primary antagonist of FF7 and one of the most famous villains in all of Final Fantasy, will be a new playable character in the game.

This might seem like a pretty far-out fan theory taken out of context, but it actually makes a lot of sense for Sephiroth to be playable in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. New party members are almost certainly coming to the next part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but so far there's been no official confirmation as to which new characters may join the party. Characters like Cait Sith and Cid are pretty sure bets, but Sephiroth could also be a possibility.

Obviously, it's highly unlikely that Sephiroth will actually join the party for a long period of time. Even if FF7 Remake changed a lot of things, it's unlikely the sequel would so dramatically change one of Final Fantasy's most famous antagonists. Sephiroth is an iconic villain, and it'd probably be foolish to ruin that by turning him into just another party member players can control at will. However, rather than joining Cloud's party, fans theorize that Sephiroth will be playable via a flashback sequence in Nibelheim.

Why Sephiroth May Be Playable In Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sephiroth

In one of the most famous sequences in Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth walks through the flames of a town he's destroyed. The famous warrior has gone mad, and he's prepared to kill anyone in his path. These events occur in Nibelheim, Cloud's hometown, and one of the major areas players visit after leaving Midgar. Because of where and how FF7 Remake ends, players can reasonably expect to visit Nibelheim in the follow-up.

It's an iconic moment from the original, and fans are theorizing it could become even more iconic in Final Fantasy Remake Part 2. This could be the moment players finally get to control Sephiroth and feel what it's like to play as one of the most famous video game villains ever. While it's unlikely Sephiroth will be playable within the main party, it's completely reasonable to assume players could control the character during the Nibelheim sequence.

None of this has been officially confirmed, of course, but it would make an interesting change to the original. It may be little more than fan service, but that doesn't mean players wouldn't appreciate it. Sephiroth has long held the interest of the Final Fantasy community, and making him playable during the Nibelheim sequence could be a way to both please fans and still make sense from a narrative standpoint. Most likely, players will have to wait until Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 releases to know if this fan theory comes true.
