What locations can Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans expect to travel to in the second installment of the game? The first part of FF7R covers mostly Midgar, stretching out roughly seven to eight hours of the original FF7 gameplay into about 30-40 hours depending on how much of a completionist a player chooses to be.

In the original FF7, the areas a player can travel to after Midgar include the town of Kalm, the Chocobo Farm, Mythril Mine, and Fort Condor before continuing the story in Junon. Many locations are optional, and fans are wondering how much time each will take up in the second installment of FF7 Remake as well as how many future installments there will be total - especially considering how much depth was added to the Midgar section alone.

A hint comes from Twitter user aikaitimochi's translation of the FF7 Ultimania, which took the time to describe five areas mentioned throughout the first FF7 Remake segment. It seems likely these areas wouldn't be brought to attention if they weren't going to appear in the second installment, and they surprisingly do not include any areas mentioned above (although it's very probable they will each appear as well). Here's a look at these five areas and how FF7 Remake Part 1 has been building up to them.

FF7 Remake Part 2 Location Predictions - Costa del Sol

FF7 Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol is a coastal resort town in the world of FF7. Players travel here immediately after Junon. In the Sector Five slums in FF7 Remake, a newlywed NPC can be heard discussing where to go for a honeymoon, and a friend suggests Costa del Sol. It also has its own music disc. Being a fairly early location in the original Final Fantasy 7, it's very likely Costa del Sol will be in the second installment.

FF7 Remake Part 2 Location Predictions - Cosmo Canyon

FF7 Cosmo Canyon

Another area with its own music disc in FF7 Remake, as well as the inspiration for the house special cocktail Tifa makes for Cloud, FF7's Cosmo Canyon is the home of Red XIII and a popular place for studying Planetology. Characters like Barrett seem more aware of the connection between the ancient Cetra civilization and the planet in FF7 Remake than they did in the original, where the gun-armed man asks if "Cetra" is "some kinda disease," and it will be interesting to see what kind of novel nuggets of knowledge the elder Bugenhagen drops on the party in this village if it shows up in FF7 Remake Part 2.

FF7 Remake Part 2 Location Predictions - Gold Saucer

Final Fantasy VII Gold Saucer Chocobo Racing

The Gold Saucer is an area associated with all kinds of entertainment like Chocobo Racing, arcade games, attractions, and the fortune-telling Cait Sith in FF7. It also has its own music disc and a couple of allusions in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

When exploring Jessie's childhood home in the Sector 7 employee housing area, the player can find a letter Jessie wrote to her parents regarding her dreams of playing the Princess in the Gold Saucer play - one that Cloud is a participant of in the original FF7. Additionally, the date mechanics for the Gold Saucer in the original work similarly to which character will talk with Cloud in Aerith's garden scene during Chapter 14 in FF7 Remake.

FF7 Remake Part 2 Location Predictions - Nibelheim

FF7 Remake Nibelheim

Although the only location of the five that doesn't have its own music disc in FF7 Remake, Nibelheim has the most references so far in the 2020 game, including some areas that have already been built in-engine like the water tower - a nostalgic structure from Tifa and Cloud's childhood. As much happens between Midgar and Nibelheim, this could be a decent place to end the next segment, perhaps after introducing Vincent as a playable character in FF7 Remake Part 2.

FF7 Remake Part 2 Location Predictions - Wutai

FF7 Wutai

Despite being a completely optional location in FF7, a lot is building up towards Wutai in FF7 Remake. Both games take place after a big war between Shinra and Wutai, but Wutai hostility propaganda is much more prevalent in FF7 Remake. Additionally, this is the Materia thief Yuffie's hometown. In the original FF7, she is randomly encountered in a forest area on the world map, and a sidequest has players track her down back to Wutai to retrieve their Materia. FF7 Remake Part 2 could implement her immediately as a plot-driven method of not starting out with the powerful Materia gained from the first installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
