Here's where players can start this quest.

Winning The Box Smashing Mini-Game in Final Fantasy 7

Final Fantasy 7 Deadly Dodge Materia

The box smashing mini-game shows up on two different occasions, in the same location, Sector 5 Slums. Players visit this location in chapter 8 and Chapter 14. The mini-game can be found tucked away in a small alleyway. Cloud must slide through and find a hideout created by the children of Sector 5 Slums. A little girl named Sarah will task Cloud with shattering boxes in a short period of time. Before beginning the mini-game, make sure to equip the Deadly Dodge Materia. It will allow Cloud to pull off a fancy spin attack at the start of every dodge and is insanely helpful for breaking more boxes at once.

Once the game begins, aim mainly for the smaller boxes containing 50 points each. These shatter very easily and the stacks may have a hidden time extender within them. The large 1500 point boxes may be tempting, but these take much longer to shatter, so focus on the smaller ones and keep moving. Dodge and attack to have a wide hitbox to break many boxes at once. The goal is 30,000 points and it may take a few tries to reach it. In harder difficulties, the time boxes are extremely useful. Keeping trying until understanding the layout and securing the victory.

Winning the top prize will provide Cloud with different prizes depending on the difficulty. Here are the prizes.

  • Normal: An Elixir (10000 Points), A Crescent Moon Charm (20000 Points), A Spectral Cogwheel (30000 Points)
  • Hard: An Elixir (10000 Points), A Crescent Moon Charm (20000 Points), A Transference Module (30000 Points)

This is a neat mini-game that will test the player's mobility options. The Deadly Dodge Materia is also fairly common and can be found early into the game at shops. This material is great for punishing enemies after a roll. Final Fantasy 7 remake plans to be a multi-game episodic story, building on the foundation left behind from the original. The gameplay is fast-paced and frantic and will satisfy the most hardcore Final Fantasy fans.
