Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary stream, taking place next week, which may finally have news about the second entry in the FF7 Remake series. Square recently revealed that FF7 Remake news was coming in June, though many assumed that it would be part of a larger show, rather than receiving its own dedicated event.

The original FF7 Remake was revealed during E3 2015 and its announcement was one of the biggest in the show's history. That announcement might have been a little premature, as the game wouldn't be released for another five years. When Square Enix recently announced that more FF7 Remake news was arriving soon, many fans assumed it would appear as part of Sony's State of Play or Summer Game Fest events, yet it was absent from both. The company has held dedicated events in the past, but that was before Square Enix sold off its Western studios, so the publisher won't have as much content for a livestream about future projects.

It seems that Square Enix will be containing all of its FF7 Remake news to a single show in honor of its 25th anniversary. The official Square Enix YouTube channel has uploaded a stream for the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration event, which will place on June 16, 2022, at 15:00 PDT / 23: 00 BST. According to the official Final Fantasy VII Remake account on Twitter, the event will run for roughly ten minutes, but it will be packed with information about upcoming projects.

While there is an Aerith and Tifa prequel book arriving in 2022 that could be promoted, the most obvious content likely to appear in the livestream is an update on FF7 Remake Part 2, or whatever the name of the final game will be. The sequel to FF7 Remake has been in development for around two years now, so there could be something to show regarding the game, even if it doesn't have a release date or release window. Meanwhile, the upcoming Ever Crisis on mobile phones still lacks a release window, and The First Soldier is crying out for PC and console ports. There is also a chance that FF7 Remake could be announced for Xbox Series X/S.

There are certainly lots of possibilities for announcements that could fill up the presentation, but news regarding the FF7 Remake sequel is what everyone is waiting for. It's unlikely that the game will launch this year, especially as FF16 has been pushed back to summer 2023, but a teaser trailer with a name reveal should be enough to keep Final Fantasy fans talking for years to come. 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of FF7, which means that it's time for Square Enix to bring out the big guns in terms of announcements.
