Wind the clock back to last fall and you might recall a fan-made Expendables 2 poster that spread like wildfire around the Internet. That's because it stacked up close to every one of the sequel's macho stars - including, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis - along with the (token?) female Expendable Maggie, played by Yu Nan.
Some 8 months and a dozen character posters later, and Lionsgate has finally unveiled its own ensemble one-sheet for Expendables 2. The aforementioned iconic tough guys of the big screen are on display here, along with familiar players like Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren - plus, new additions Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and Liam Hemsworth (no girls allowed, apparently - sorry Maggie).
Here is a studio-sanctioned plot summary for Expendables 2, followed by the final poster (via Yahoo! Movies):
Mr. Church (Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney (Stallone) and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary (Van Damme) who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….

Just like the Expendables 2 trailers and TV spots, the final poster is full to the brim with muscular men, guns, knives, weaponry, fire, and explosions; in other words, everything this testosterone-fest promises to deliver in boatloads (with some enjoyably cheesy one-liners and bro-centric drama to boot). This new poster doesn't unite all of the movie's manly stars in the most stylish configuration imaginable - but it gets the job done, and still looks more polished than previous Photoshop jobs for this year's blockbuster slate (see: the final one-sheets for The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises).
Look for The Expendables 2 to hit theaters around the U.S. on August 17th, 2012.
