Last week, we confirmed that Final Destination 5 was happening. Now, thanks to Shock Till You Drop, we know that the film will definitely be in 3D (as we expected), and will be full of creative and uber-gory death scenes. Talking with Final Destination 5 producer Craig Perry, STYD's Ryan Rotten grabbed the following quote.
"If we find the right storyline – and we're working on it – then we'll take the lessons we learned from The Final Destination and make the necessary improvements to deliver what audiences expect from this franchise, going back to the original. What I know for sure is that it will be in 3D and deliver inventive, suspenseful, fun kills. That I can promise!"
It's nice to hear that they are trying to learn from their mistakes on The Final Destination, but, at this point, it's hard to see how the movie could improve in any way. When the very first Final Destination came out, I remember loving it. Not only did it deliver some pretty terrific death scenes, but it was funny and genuinely original.
With each subsequent sequel, however, the franchise seemed to be focusing more and more on the making the death scenes spectacular rather than doing anything inventive with its plot structure. Of course, for fans of the Final Destination franchise, that's not a problem, since creative deaths is why each sequel has made its money back and then some.
Perhaps I'm being overly skeptical, but I find it unlikely that Final Destination 5 will do anything significantly different than any of its predecessors. Maybe that's not a problem though. What do you think? Are you game for another round of in your face 3D horror?
