New Wordle clone Fighting Game Heardle has been making the rounds on social media recently, gaining traction with fighting game fans by having them test their video game soundtrack knowledge. Fans of these sorts of Wordle spin-off games may be reminded of last month's Heardle app, which tested players on their familiarity with pop music.

Since its release last year, the popular word puzzle game Wordle has inspired a seemingly endless amount of spin-offs and copycat games. While some of these Wordle clones may evoke feelings of cynicism in players due to their cash-grab nature, most of them are quite entertaining, unique, and charming in various ways. Some of these clones, such as Spellie, aim to provide an easier version of the core Wordle word puzzle gameplay, while others, such as Octordle, do the opposite, multiplying Wordle's challenge. Others take a different approach entirely, keeping only the most basic mechanics and recognizable elements from Wordle while changing just about everything else. Some clones, such as Antiwordle, offer the polar opposite of the Wordle experience.

Fighting Game Heardle is arguably one of these games, as it majorly shakes up the Wordle formula. The game, which has been picking up steam thanks to Twitter pages like Fighting Game Anniversaries, plays a very short clip from a fighting game track. After this snippet, players must search for which game they think the song is from. Players get six guesses, and a bit more of the daily track is played for each guess.

While a number of tweets about Fighting Game Heardle comment on how easy it is, players lacking expertise in the world of fighting video games are sure to have a much harder time. Fighting games are known for their iconic soundtracks, but it is also one of the most saturated genres in video games, with several new fighting game soundtracks coming out each year. It may not be as tough as Wordle-times-four Quordle, but it is still quite challenging.

Its difficulty might just be what brings in more players, though. Fighting game fans are famously dedicated and passionate about the genre, so it would make sense that many of them have certain soundtracks essentially memorized. As such, it's conceivable that Fighting Game Heardle could gather even more popularity over the coming months. Fighting game fans certainly don't like to back down from a challenge, so this themed Wordle clone may be the perfect challenge for them.
