PlayStation 5's DualSense controller and its haptic feedback technology will receive further support with FIFA in the future, according to EA Sports Gameplay Producer Kantcho Doskov. The DualSense seems as though it's quickly becoming a favorite piece of next-gen technology among game developers across the board.

The PS5 controller's adaptive triggers allow for a greater sense of tension, helping to better convey the feel of firing a bow, for example. Meanwhile, haptic feedback is a more robust application of what was previously possible with HD rumble features. Thus far, the controller's haptics have been best implemented in PS5's pre-installed game, Astro's Playroom. Make no mistake, though, FIFA 21 uses the features in inventive ways, too. Vibrations on the left side of the controller build in intensity after players perform a powerful left-footed shot. Trigger resistance intensifies as the player character's stamina drains, conveying the effects of increased exhaustion. And it seems EA developers intend to implement further DualSense support in FIFA experiences as time goes on.

In an interview featured in Official PlayStation Magazine Issue 183 (via Wccftech), Gameplay Producer Kantcho Doskov said the development team is interested in further exploring the possibilities with DualSense's haptics. Doskov told OPM: "Going forward, we’ll definitely want to continue to add features and make more use of the DualSense haptics because it’s kind of game-changing."

A team enters the field in FIFA 21

As Wccftech notes, Doskov's statement doesn't specify whether the additional support on DualSense will become available for FIFA 21. He could mean the developer is only exploring more options for future FIFA releases. As of writing, that much remains unclear. What does seem obvious, however, is that developers are increasingly becoming more interested in experimenting with DualSense in unique ways.

FIFA 21 originally hit store shelves back in October; however, EA just released native versions of the title on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S earlier this month. Fortunately, players who own a copy on PS4/Xbox One can upgrade to the PS5 or Series X|S iteration free of charge, so long as they own the same family of platforms across both generations. However, not every bit of news is good news on the EA Sports front. Not all pro athletes are pleased with their likenesses being used in FIFA titles, for instance. And EA was recently hit with another class-action lawsuit revolving around its loot box practices.
