FIFA 22 has partnered with the world’s first football club to convince players to stop rage quitting and start skipping replays. The latest entry in the long-running football simulation series was released at the start of the month. In particular, FIFA 22 drew praise for its new HyperMotion gameplay and AI machine learning technologies being some of the highlights of the new iteration.

With how popular the FIFA series is, with its position as the best-selling sports video game franchise in the world, it isn’t surprising that people would encounter some distasteful behavior from other players online. Some of these include rage-quitting, abusing pauses, and not skipping goal replays to both waste time and antagonize opposing players, among other things. While EA has attempted to reduce the effects of some of these behaviors, such as introducing a camera setting that allows FIFA players to ignore their opponent’s goal celebrations and penalizing rage quitting, the behavior still exists in the game.

The Sheffield Football Club posted the video of its collaboration with FIFA 22 on its official Twitter account. The video starts off by introducing the term F.O.A.T. or the “First Of All Time,” which in the case of video is Sheffield FC, the world’s first football club and where the first rules of the sport were established. The video then goes on to talk about the “Code of the F.O.A.T.,” a set of unwritten rules for FIFA 22 that are said to have now been approved by Sheffield FC itself. These rules include asking players to not rage quit, to skip replays if they’re not worth seeing, to not waste other people’s time, and more.

Apart from the video, the collaboration between FIFA 22 and Sheffield FC, which has interestingly been announced on the anniversary of the team, will see the first-ever football club’s kit from 1857 be made available in the game through FIFA's Ultimate Team mode. The kit can be attained by playing five matches that include five players from England in the starting squad, assisting three goals using players from England, and winning a match by at least two goals. All of these can be completed in any FIFA Ultimate Team game mode.

While the “Code of the F.O.A.T.” isn’t really an enforceable set of rules, EA Sports is simply banking on its collaboration with Sheffield FC to convince more players to abide by them. The history and legacy of Sheffield FC can certainly pull at the heartstrings of at least a few players who truly love the sport. Nonetheless, fans of both FIFA 22 and Sheffield FC can at least get the latter’s kit in the process.
