Alphinaud and Alisaie Leveilleur have been key characters of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn since the earliest days of the game, and like the player's Warrior of Light, have changed their jobs in FFXIV along the way. Some jobs, like Red Mage and the upcoming Sage in Endwalker, are also directly available to the player character, while Academician is Alphinaud's unique version of a Scholar. Regardless, each Leveilluer twin has special skills exclusive to them.

The twins began their journey in Eorzea as Arcanists, both wearing nearly the same outfit - Alphinaud's with a hint of blue while Alisaie's was red. Before their arrival, their grandfather Louisoux gifted them each a grimoire. Arcanist is a base class of FFXIV, akin to a lower-ranked job in terms of strength and skill. Tomes are the weapon of choice for Arcanists, the symbols contained within granting control over magical aether. In Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Alphinaud battles alongside the player character as an Arcanist, and summons the unique Obsidian and Ruby Carbuncle companions. In Stormblood, he summons a new cute and sparkly companion: the Moonstone Carbuncle. Arcanist players, however, can only summon Emerald and Topaz Carbuncles, with Ruby as a glamour.

While Alphinaud took on more of a support role, Alisaie used her grimoire to summon forth a sword made of aether. She's the more firey and aggressive of the two, having trained in fencing, and isn't afraid to get up close and personal. FFXIV: Stormblood is when Alisaie officially took on Red Mage training under X'rhun Tia, and really starts coming into her own as a character. She wasn't seen much in main story quests until post-Heavensward content, but the dramatic reveal of her magic blade for the first time quickly brought her into the spotlight. When the sword emerged from between her grimoire's pages, she heralded excitement for the upcoming Red Mage class in Stormblood.

FFXIV: Alphinaud & Alisaie Job Changes In Shadowbringers & Endwalker

FF14 Shadowbringers Argument

Alphinaud remained stuck with the Arcanist job in FFXIV until Shadowbringers. During his adventures in the newly-added Trust dungeons, his class is listed as Academician, which is similar to a Scholar healer. Unlike the Scholar job in FFXIV for players, which allows summoned faeries to assist with protecting the party, Alphinaud enters battle alongside his Carbuncle. In the Endwalker trailer, Alphinaud is shown in his new Sage outfit as he fights alongside his sister and the Warrior of Light. In place of a Carbuncle familiar, he's seen wielding the new weapon, nouliths, which are a flying array of foci. Sage is a new healer job being added to FFXIV in Endwalker, and it's definitely a step up in style from Academician.

During FFXIV's Letter from the Producer in May, lead writer Natsuko Ishikawa recommended players complete the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid series before Endwalker. Many details about the Leveilluer twins and their grandfather Louisoux are revealed over its course, such as the power of their combined grimoires. While it is not a hard prerequisite to Endwalker's content, the information could offer some additional context to players.

The twins aren't the first FFXIV characters to receive job changes, but perhaps more than others, it more dramatically reflected their character development. As they grew past their Arcanist class, Alphinaud became a healer while Alisaie branched off to become a flashy DPS job, contrasting and complementing one another. Their similarity in appearance has been a recurring joke throughout the story of Final Fantasy XIV, but they have set themselves apart in both personality and battle styles.
