A talented modder recently figured out how to play Final Fantasy VII Remake with a replica of Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword. The spikey-haired and troubled hero of Square Enix’s beloved JRPG and various spin-offs is strongly associated with his signature claymore, which he inherited from his best friend and mentor Zack Fair before the events of Final Fantasy VII.

While players usually trade-in Cloud’s Buster Sword for newer and better models as soon as possible during Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Cloud himself has gone on to upgrade his arsenal in franchise follow-ups like 2005’s Advent Children: Final Fantasy VII. That said, the Buster Sword is his default blade and remains one of the most recognizable weapons in the Final Fantasy series. The massive Buster Sword requires its user to be infused with Mako energy in order to properly wield it, but it has served Cloud well in his many battles against the dark forces of Shinra and rival antagonist Sephiroth. Final Fantasy VII Remake fans have often joked about how impractical and inconsistent FFVII Remake's Buster Sword can be, but it turns out that the iconic claymore makes for a pretty good motion controller.

In a video recently posted on his Twitter page, Spooky Louis 64 demonstrates how his custom-made Final Fantasy VII Remake Buster Sword controller works by enacting some of Cloud’s classic moves and poses, which Cloud himself then performs in-game. He added buttons and triggers for more precise in-game actions, like switching party members and issuing commands. Although he admits that his Buster Sword controller is still a work-in-progress, Spooky Louis 64 is proud of how his newest project has turned out so far and states “kid me who pretended to be Cloud would be so proud.” He also remarks that the current model of his Buster Sword can be tiring to wield, and he was ready for a break after about 30 minutes of playing Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Super Louis 64 has performed plenty of wild gaming feats in the past, such as playing Overwatch with a Ring Fit Adventure controller and beating the infamously difficult Dark Souls 3 with bananas to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In fact, this recent Final Fantasy VII Remake Buster Sword controller is hardly the first time he has employed replicas of in-game weapons to control their digital counterparts, seeing as he once used a katana as a controller to play Ghost Of Tsushima.

Fans have always wondered what it would be like to wield Cloud Strife’s infamously large Buster Sword in battle, and now it looks like Super Louis 64 is living the dream thanks to his functional Final Fantasy VII Remake Buster Sword controller. There doesn't appear to be a limit to the unique and interesting controller mods that Super Louis 64 can come up with, and it is likely his followers are wondering what he’ll dream up next.
