PC modder Crandifff built a Final Fantasy VII Remake mod that gives the villainous Sephiroth a Ronald McDonald-inspired makeover. Well over a year after its release on PS4, FF7 Remake finally hit PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive on December 16, 2021. Unfortunately, the eagerly-anticipated title suffered through more than a fair few hardships out of the gate, due in large part to myriad performance issues on the platform. One analyst, Digital Foundry's John Linneman, went so far as to call the remake's PC port "terrible."

Square Enix published Final Fantasy 7 Remake in April 2020 for PS4, unleashing an enhanced version of the beloved PS1 classic for fans new and old. Improved graphics, modern controls, and refined gameplay all worked in tandem to service an experience that many now consider the ideal way to play the acclaimed Final Fantasy adventure. Its release on PC, then, generated much excitement, especially for an eager modding community. And it's clear some FF7 modders are already having a blast.

As most were celebrating the end of 2020, Nexus Mods modder Crandifff (via Polygon) spent some of the year's final days crafting Sephironald, a PC mod that quite literally turns the menacing Sephiroth into a clown. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake mod dresses the iconic antagonist in makeup and attire inspired by McDonald's mascot Ronald McDonald - white makeup, red hair, and loud yellow clothing included. It's equal parts hilarious and nightmarish, ensuring Sephiroth looks as fearsome as ever. In action, though, this particular mod doesn't really do the character justice, as seen in the following compilation video from Twitch streamer Louiseyhannah.

Crandifff may have uploaded the Sephironald mod in late 2021, but this will likely be remembered as a highlight of early 2022 internet memes. Who could've guessed that Sephiroth's metamorphosis into Ronald McDonald would help ring in the new year?

2021 proved a good year for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, courtesy of the PS5 upgrade and Intermission DLC, the latter of which may influence the next chapter in the remake's story. When Square Enix plans to release Final Fantasy 7 Remake's second part presently remains a mystery, yet previous teases from Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi suggest Part 2 will be bigger in scope than its predecessor. For now, though, the wait to learn more must persist.
