The compilation Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will release on Android and iOS devices in 2022. The mobile game will take players through a retelling of the original Final Fantasy 7 games, as well as each of the spinoff titles that have been released on different platforms over the past several decades. This is exciting news for the series, as many of the spinoff games in the FF7 storyline were never ported to modern consoles, including the first-person shooter Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus. Little is currently known about how the gameplay will be remastered for mobile mechanics, but it is likely much of Dirge of Cerberus will be overhauled for a modified turn-based system.

Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus is set after the events of Final Fantasy 7. The story focuses on the mysterious ex-Turk Vincent Valentine as he unravels the mysterious background of the Deepground forces invading different cities and kidnapping innocent people. During the course of the narrative, players learn Vincent's origin story, as well as lucrative information about the creation of Sephiroth. Dirge of Cerberus is the only first-person shooter game in the FF7 storyline, and the mechanics were received with mixed reviews at the game's launch.

While much of the story is likely to stay the same when Dirge of Cerberus is released in FF7: Ever Crisis, the gameplay will likely have an overhaul to better match the other titles that will also be releasing. It is likely the chapters covering Dirge of Cerberus will be modified to turn-based combat seen in the announcement trailer for the game, to help streamline gameplay throughout each title. However, this may not be a bad thing, as the combat system in the original game was difficult to master, and often required players to juggle firing a gun with the use of the material and Limit Breaks. A turn-based system would better allow the use of strategy when working through the more difficult boss fights in the game.

FF7: Ever Crisis Could Add New Story Beats

It is possible certain story elements will be revised when the events of Dirge of Cerberus are released in FF7: Every Crisis. Thanks to changes that were made in FF7: Crisis Core, as well as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, more is known about the project that made Sephiroth, and the importance of Deepground in the Final Fantasy 7 storyline. One of the main antagonists from Dirge of Cerberus was recently teased as a secret boss for the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade DLC, and there is a possibility more of his backstory could be revealed, potentially affecting the overall storyline of Ever Crisis.

While there are likely to be changes in the overall presentation of the story for Dirge of Cerberus, hopefully FF7: Ever Crisis will include important characters like Reeve Tuesti, Cait Sith, and Yuffie Kisaragi. It may also include the different upgrades and boosters that can be equipped to Vincent's gun, Cerberus, to improve attacks. While it may be some time before more information is released for Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis, it seems there will be plenty to look forward to as more is revealed about how these past spinoff games will be reworked into the finished compilation spanning the entire FF7 storyline.
