Having just been renewed for Fear The Walking Dead season 8 as it reaches the halfway point of season 7, the show is now at the perfect point for it to come to an end. Though neither AMC nor the showrunners behind the zombie spinoff have not confirmed this to be the case, the upcoming season should serve as the series' last.

Fear The Walking Dead season 7 has seen the group try to brave the nuclear devastation caused by the warhead detonated by Teddy. The first half largely focused on Strand and Morgan, with the former in particular gradually developing into becoming the season's main antagonist. Other notable stories have included Al's conflict with the CRM, which sees her depart the series to reunite with Isabelle. Viewers also see the return of Alicia in the mid-season finale, which reveals that she is currently suffering from fever thanks to causes that remain as yet unconfirmed and that Alicia has now declared war on Strand.

Though it is not confirmed to be the case, Fear The Walking Dead season 8 should be where the show comes to a close. The show's many changes have been met with sharp division, and season 7 has currently received a heavily mixed response as of its mid-season conclusion. The return of Madison Clark also sets the stage for the show to reach its perfect conclusion, and end the show in a satisfying manner for viewers.

Fear the Walking Dead Madison Clark

Fear The Walking Dead begins following the Clark family as they and others try to survive the early stages of the outbreak. Former showrunner, Dave Ericksen, even intended for the series to follow the characters as they morph into villains. Come season 4, however, when Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss took over as showrunners, Nick was killed, Madison disappeared, and Morgan took over from Alicia as Fear's lead. These changes did not go over well with many fans, hence the mixed reception of Seasons 4 and 5. Despite season 6 garnering a more positive response, season 7 so far has fallen back into mixed reviews, with many criticizing its apparently aimless storytelling. This shows that if Fear continues beyond season 8, these problems could get worse.

As mentioned before, Madison is finally making her long-awaited return to Fear The Walking Dead in season 7. While this is likely to help keep fans interested in the show so it remains thriving for more years, it would actually be better for the series to use her return as a way of giving the series a satisfying conclusion. Her role as one of the original main protagonists makes Madison's return to Fear The Walking Dead a huge deal, and in some ways brings the series full circle.

Overall, there is currently no way to know for certain if Fear The Walking Dead season 8 will be the last. However, with The Walking Dead and World Beyond ending, it seems natural for Fear to begin following suit. If season 8 can deliver a solid ending that satisfies viewers, it can redeem the show for past mistakes. However, should the showrunners choose to continue beyond that, hopefully, they'll find ways to keep the show fresh and exciting without repeating those mistakes.
