Kim Dickens, who plays Madison Clark on Fear the Walking Dead will be returning during the second half of the show’s seventh season. The series is one of the spin-offs of The Walking Dead. It follows different families who are trying to survive a zombie apocalypse, starting off as a prequel to The Walking Dead, as it takes place right at the beginning of the outbreak. Fear the Walking Dead recently finished the first half of its seventh season, on the November 28.
Madison Clark was last seen during season 4's midseason finale “No One's Gone." In the episode, Madison is seen sacrificing herself to help the others escape hoards of zombies, or infected. She’s shown leading the infected away and locking a gate behind her to ensure everyone else’s safe getaway, but this also meant that she was left with seemingly no way to escape. This led audiences to believe that she had died, and that Dickens would no longer be a part of the series.
During an interview on Talking Dead (via Variety) Dickens confirms that she will be returning to play Madison Clark on Fear the Walking Dead season 7, part 2. She states that she’s known about the return of her character for about a year. Scott M. Gimple, the chief content officer of The Walking Dead and its spin-offs, later spoke about the importance of her character. Read what he had to say below:
“If there were a Mt. Deadmore, Kim Dickens’ face would be on it, Madison Clark is a foundational character to TWDU — heroic, complex, an everyperson who becomes a warrior and then a force of benevolence. Kim Dickens’ raw talent, strength, and brilliance will electrify TWDU once more and we couldn’t be luckier to have her back.”
Recently, Fear the Walking Dead's return for an eighth season was also announced, although there’s been no release date revealed as of yet. Madison Clark has been confirmed as a series regular for season eight, although there has been nothing said about her status for the second half of season seven. During this interview with Talking Dead, fans were promised that Madison’s return would not be for a short-lived flashback, instead coming back for the foreseeable future.
The character’s last appearance on Fear the Walking Dead left her in a somewhat precarious situation, although her death was never on screen, only implied. This will leave viewers speculating about possible ways Madison could have survived, and how she will reappear. The reaction thus far has been leaning towards positive for the return of this fan-favorite character. Fear the Walking Dead comes back for season 7, part 2 on April 17, 2022.
