The ending of the Fear the Walking Dead season 6 finale was filled with potentially game-changing developments, including a huge link to the CRM organization. Members of Morgan’s group, separated in the aftermath of Teddy’s decision to launch the nuclear missiles, each had to deal with the coming destruction in their own way.

Fear the Walking Dead season 6 has been a brutal chapter in the lives of the show’s main characters. After barely getting through the events of the season 5 finale in one piece, Morgan (Lennie James) devoted the next several months to opposing Virginia (Colby Minifie) and the Pioneers and reuniting the group, even if it meant setting aside his no-killing rule. Being a part of the Pioneers has been hard on all of the characters, who have struggled to accept this new reality. But in the end, Morgan and his allies were able to defeat her.

Following Virginia’s death and the end of the show’s Pioneer story, Fear the Walking Dead dove into a new arc, with John Glover’s Teddy serving as the main antagonist. With Teddy, the stakes were higher than ever. Instead of simply fighting for just their lives, they were up against an enemy whose goal was to destroy the world with nuclear bombs and start anew. Despite Morgan’s efforts to stop him, Teddy succeeded in unleashing ten warheads sure to wipe out the surrounded areas. In Fear the Walking Dead season 6, episode 16, “The Beginning”, some of the characters initially decided to accept their fate, while others searched for ways to survive.

Every Character Who Died (& Where Everyone Is Now)

The finale marked the end for a handful of the show’s characters. The first causality was Rollie (Cory Hart), who turned out to be the traitor Daniel (Rubén Blades) had warned them about a few episodes back. Though held back by his memory issues, Daniel’s instincts kicked in when Rollie, who had supposedly pried Alicia’s location from Riley (Nick Stahl), claimed he was taking them to shelter. Having figured out they were working together, Daniel killed Rollie, which was followed by Charlie (Alexa Nisenson) being forced to shoot Riley. Guided by Daniel, a small group of characters boarded a CRM helicopter apparently sent by Al (Maggie Grace). Thanks to Al’s timely interference, Daniel, Luciana (Danay Garcia), Rabbi Jacob (Peter Jacobson), Sarah (Mo Collins), Charlie, and Wes (Colby Hollman) fled the area in time before the nukes hit. Riley, however, wasn’t so lucky. He succumbed to his wounds and turned.

Riley wasn’t the only villain to die in the season’s final episode. When June (Jenna Elfman) and J.D. (Keith Carradine) confronted Teddy and Dakota (Zoe Colletti), it was discovered that Teddy secretly had an underground hideout that he intended to use to ride out the blasts. Upset that Teddy lied to her about his plan, Dakota murdered Teddy, only to be turned to ash by the warhead. As for June and J.D, they were able to get to safety in Teddy’s secret bunker. Meanwhile, Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christina Evangelista) secured a storm cellar from two of Teddy’s minions. Strand (Colman Domingo), off on his own, was just outside the radius when the warhead touched ground.

Back at the submarine, Morgan and Grace were about to die by suicide when they were interrupted by a child crying. Rachel (Brigitte Kali Canales), the widow of Isaac from the season 6 premiere, had become a zombie, but her baby was still alive. After saving the child, the two ducked under a truck and managed to survive the blast.

Morgan & Grace Could Die In FTWD Season 7

Grace in Fear The Walking Dead

The closing scene of the episode left Morgan and Grace’s fate ambiguous. Moments after the first bomb hit, a second detonated nearby, but it’s hard to say just close it was or how much the danger the two characters are in now. Fear the Walking Dead killing off either of them feels unlikely though, especially since it just shook up their story by bringing Rachel’s son into their lives. Grace didn’t want to live in a world devastated by radiation, but Morgan seems to have a found a new reason to keep going. That being said, it remains to be seen if their proximity to the first (or the second) blast will have any long-term effects on their health. Radiation poisoning was something Grace feared back in seasons 4 and 5, and what happened in the season 6 finale could give her a new cause for concern.

Why Victor Strand Lied About Being Morgan

Victor Strand in Fear The Walking Dead Season 6

After meeting a new character named Howard (Omid Abtahi), Strand told him the story about what happened on the submarine, and then shocked viewers by introducing himself as Morgan Jones. He claimed to be the one who was “ready to die”, and not the person who tried to sacrifice the other for his own glory. For a while there, Strand was so disgusted with himself that he pretended to be somebody else, but after the bomb missed them, he let the façade drop and embraced who he really is. Having realized that he has once again survived what should have been a certain death situation, Strand has emerged from his crisis with a newfound confidence. Knowing that his flaws have made him a survivor, Strand isn’t ashamed of who he is anymore – and that could have negative consequences for Fear the Walking Dead season 7. Based on his new attitude, it’s possible that Strand will develop a villainous presence on the show.

What's Next For Alicia In Season 7

Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Alicia Clark

Teddy trapping Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) underground so that she’d survive the nuclear missiles took her off the table for the season 6 finale. No one ever did figure out what happened to her, and Teddy, Riley, and Dakota all dying in the episode means that rescue may not be coming for a while. If the season 7 premiere features a big skip, Alicia may go through months of living in total isolation before someone – whether it be a familiar face or a brand-new character – shows up to free her from her prison. If so, she could walk out of the bunker hardened by all the time she spent alone down there.

What The CRM's Return Means For FTWD Season 7

The arrival of the CRM helicopter indicates that Al, who left earlier in the season to look for Isabelle (Sydney Lemmon), did in fact reunite with her off-screen. The series previously created a connection to the massive CRM organization through Lemmon’s character, but has yet to make it integral to the series. Isabelle and CRM have been key to Al’s story, but nothing more. But, that appears to be changing ahead of season 7. The CRM, which is central to Walking Dead: World Beyond and the upcoming Rick Grimes movies, may become important in Fear the Walking Dead as well, depending on where it goes with this new storyline. Al and Isabelle could escort Daniel’s group directly to the CRM, who could take them all prisoner. Alternatively, it may be revealed that Isabelle has gone rogue and has cut ties with the organization, which could lead to her former employers retaliating against her. Regardless, CRM is sure to have a bigger role in Fear the Walking Dead season 7 than it has in the past.
