A brand new trailer for Fear the Walking Dead is essentially a who’s who of the many new cast members arriving in season 4. When the show returns, AMC’s Walking Dead spinoff series will welcome not only new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, but also several new characters played by Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, and Jenna Elfman — all of whom make some weapon-specific appearances in the new trailer. But, as the trailer is keen to point out, the arrival of Lennie James’ Morgan is perhaps an as big an attraction as all the new blood being infused into the show.

A crossover with a character from the original series and the introduction of so many new cast members is a solid one-two punch in the show’s effort to attract new viewers and retain the ones it’s managed to hold on to for the past three seasons. There’s also the promise of a new setting, as the show moves for a third time from California to Mexico to Texas, which might account for the shiny six-shooters Dillahunt’s wielding in the trailer. It all adds up to an effort on behalf of the new showrunners to reinvigorate the series, though, from the look ad sound of it, Chambliss and Goldberg aren’t straying away from the ponderous examinations of morality in a post-apocalyptic world .

Still, even though Fear the Walking Dead season 4 seems committed to doubling down on the well-worn “humans are the real monster” conceit of both series, at least it will have a surprisingly strong cast of characters with which to do so. As an added bonus, fans curious to know what Morgan was up to in between his first appearance on the series and the moment he and Rick curiously crossed paths again are in luck. It appears he was twirling that staff of his in Texas along with Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

It’s anyones guess as to whether or not that will be enough to bring audiences shambling back to the series for a fourth go-round during the early-ish days of the zombie apocalypse, but it’ll be interesting to find out. Besides, with this many new characters being introduced there’s bound to be some curiosity as to who they are and whether or not they will have an impact on either Morgan’s future or The Walking Dead overall. Chances are they’ll all wind up as zombie chow one way or another, but it’s nice to think the show has something more meaningful planned.

If nothing else, season 4 stands to offer viewers a chance to see what the show will be like under new management. With all the changes being made it’s like getting a slightly used but still newer model of the car you currently own. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if the additions turn out to be worthwhile upgrades.
