In Fear the Walking Dead season 6, episode 2, Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) became the first member of the group to cross paths with Morgan Jones (Lennie James), whose mission is to defeat the Pioneers and reunite with his friends.

In the Fear the Walking Dead season 5 finale, Virginia (Colby Minifie) split up Morgan’s group and sent them to different settlements. Only Morgan himself was left behind, as Virginia believed that he was a threat to her goals. In the season 6 premiere, it was revealed that Virginia is taking measures to make sure Morgan can’t come back to haunt her in the future. Regardless of her efforts, Morgan has no intention of giving up. The episode that followed shifted gears from Morgan to Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Strand (Colman Domingo), Charlie (Alexa Nisenson), and Daniel, who are now stationed at Lawton, which is apparently the main encampment of the Pioneers.

At the end of the episode, Daniel — who is now working as a barber for the Pioneers — was outside when he heard a noise. Suddenly, he was approached by Morgan. The season 6 episode ended before an explanation could be given on how Morgan found Lawton, but it’s likely that Morgan gained its location offscreen during the events of the season 6 premiere. At this time, Morgan was in the company of Isaac (Michael Abbott Jr.), who said he was one of Virginia’s Rangers. Isaac died, but he may have had time to tell him where Virginia’s base was. Alternatively, Morgan could have talked about this with Isaac’s wife before he headed off to find his friends. As former members of her community, either character would have been able to provide that information.

It’s important to keep in mind that Lawton’s location isn’t the only important detail about the Pioneers that Morgan could have picked up from Isaac or his wife. Depending on how much they know, they could have told Morgan where the other settlements are as well. If so, that’ll make it easier for him to find the others. Even if that’s not the case, Morgan stands to learn a lot in the episodes to come, considering that Daniel’s amnesia act has seemingly fooled Virginia into thinking that he’s no longer of any consequence. Knowledge that Daniel may gained from listening to conversations the Pioneers had in his presence could be useful to Morgan going forward.

What will Morgan do next? The group was split up again when Strand was promoted, so he may not get a chance to speak to Alicia anytime soon. That being said, Charlie and Strand are presumably still in town and could be contacted by Morgan. Or, Morgan could use Daniel to pass on word of his survival to the other characters. Since Daniel was in the process of traveling to Paradise Ridge, he could be the link to the other members of the group. Either way, it appears that in finding Daniel, Morgan has taken a huge first step toward his ultimate goal in Fear the Walking Dead season 6.
