New 'Fear the Walking Dead' Images and Official Synopsis

AMC's The Walking Dead brought Robert Kirkman's comic book to live-action as the series followed a group of survivors in southeast U.S. after a zombie apocalypse ravaged the world. The Walking Dead will enter its sixth season this October and will continue to explore the books on which it's based. Before then, however, AMC will debut the quasi-prequel series to its zombie drama, Fear the Walking Dead.

Set on the other side of the U.S. in Los Angeles, Fear the Walking Dead will follow a family during the outbreak of the zombie virus. The first full trailer for Fear the Walking Dead was released at San Diego Comic-Con and showed the escalating conflict caused by the disease. Now, new stills and an official synopsis offer another look at the upcoming zombie series.

Bloody Disgusting revealed almost 60 new images from Fear the Walking Dead, including character posters, stills from the first season and behind-the-scenes shots. Some of the images are high-res versions of those that have been previously released, but the character portraits are entirely new and depict each of the nine main characters. Additionally, an official synopsis for Fear the Walking Dead was released.

Kim Dickens (Gone Girl) and Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related) star in Fear the Walking Dead as Madison Clark and Travis Manawa. Their children, Nick Clark, Alicia Clark and Chris Manawa are played by Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Alycia Debnam-Carey (The 100) and Lorenzo James Henrie (Almost Kings). Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black) co-stars as Chris's mother Liza Ortiz. The Salazar family - father Daniel, mother Griselda and daughter Ofelia - round out the cast and are played by Rubén Blades (Safe House), Patricia Reyes Spíndola (Frida) and Mercedes Mason (666 Park Avenue, The Finder).

Take a look at the synopsis and some of the images:

"Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark and English teacher Travis Manawa have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories."

The synopsis for Fear the Walking Dead largely reiterates the points of the story that were established within the first trailer for the series. The new show will follow the blended family led by Madison and Travis, who meet the Salazars while attempting to stay safe within the brewing zombie apocalypse. Additionally, the new images offer little added insight into the basic premise of Fear the Walking Dead.

However, for fans of The Walking Dead, or those that will be tuning in to Fear the Walking Dead, these new images should help to familiarize viewers with the new cast of characters. That being said, since this series will follow in the vein of The Walking Dead, viewers shouldn't get too attached to all these characters - they are battling a zombie apocalypse after all, and it's likely they won't all make it out of the first season.
