AMC is promoting Fear the Walking Dead season 4 with a pair of first-look images of Lennie James’ Morgan, the character who will be crossing over from The Walking Dead. The crossover has long been the subject of speculation and rumor, but due to the disparate timelines of the two series, gathering the casts for an event seemed unlikely. However, there have been several characters whose paths have taken them well beyond where AMC’s original zombie series has traveled, finally making a crossover possible.
Number one on the list for many fans was that of Michael Cudlitz’s Abraham Ford. The mustachioed military man sauntered through Houston, Texas on his way to meeting up with Rick and his merry band of survivors before being dispatched by Negan in the season 7 premiere. And since he was well-liked by so many viewers, and conceivably deserving of some extra screen time, considering the way he went out, it made sense that he might pop up in season 4 of Fear, which, under the supervision of incoming showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, is ready to make Houston its new setting.
As it turned out, though, the crossover character wound up being none other than James’ staff-wielding Morgan, and it seems like viewers will get a better idea of what he was up to (and had gone through) since his appearance in the series premiere and when he finally popped up again in season 3’s ‘Clear.’ Touching on the character’s history means he’ll likely cross paths with Kim Dickens’ Madison Clark at some point or another. But before he does, he’ll have to deal with the undead as shown in these new images EW unveiled today. Check out the images below:
The new season of Fear the Walking Dead will be the first without series co-creator Dave Erickson, who ended his three-season run as showrunner with the explosive ‘Sleigh Ride’ that not only opened the door for the series to move to Houston, but also left the fates of several characters — aside from Madison — up in the air. Since then, Chambliss and Goldberg have gone on a hiring spree, bringing Garret Dillahunt, Jenna Elfman, Maggie Grace, and Kevin Zegers on board in what’s shaping up to be a very different show — at least from a cast perspective.
Whether the new cast and the look into Morgan’s past will shake things up significantly for the series or not is perhaps the biggest questions surrounding season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead. Though spun off of one of the biggest shows on TV, the prequel series never seemed to find the same devoted audience as the original. With so many changes coming the show’s way it will be interesting to see if it can bring its viewership shambling back like so many undead.
Fear the Walking Dead season 4 is set to premiere in 2018 on AMC.
