12 Monkeys star Aaron Stanford has joined the cast of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead for the second half of season 4. Stanford is particularly known among general audiences for playing the fire-controlling mutant Pyro in X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Stanford was also a series regular on Nikita for four seasons. But, most recently, he played the lead role of James Cole in Syfy's time travel series 12 Monkeys. Given his experience in 12 Monkeys, Stanford is no stranger to post-apocalyptic roles - and he use some of those skills when he appears in Fear the Walking Dead.

TV Guide reports that Aaron Stanford, Stephen Henderson (Lady Bird), Tonya Perkins (Gotham), Mo Collins (MadTV), and Daryll "Chill" Mitchell (Galaxy Quest) have joined the cast of Fear the Walking Dead season 4 in recurring roles. All five can be spotted in the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 trailer. So far, it's unknown who they'll be portraying, though audiences can infer from the footage that the characters played by Stanford, Mitchell, and Collins will be at least temporarily part of the main group. The three seem to be working together with Luciana, John, and June.

The core group has taken several hits in the past two seasons, so an expansion seems like a good idea. In season 3, the series lost its male lead, Travis (Cliff Curtis), as well as Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), followed by every new series regular added for that season. Salazar (Ruben Blades) didn't return for season 4, but is still expected to appear at some point. In a shocking twist, Nick (Frank Dillane) was killed off at the beginning of the current season, and Madison (Kim Dickens), the show's main character, was confirmed to be dead in the midseason finale.

Of the original season 1 cast, only Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Strand (Colman Domingo) remain. The rest of the cast is made up of new characters, along with Morgan (Lennie James), the crossover character from The Walking Dead. Morgan, who hasn't even been a series regular for an entire season, looks to be the show's new star. It remains to be seen how these new additions will impact the show going forward. If the characters played by Stanford and the others manage to stick around, audiences may see the series adopt a larger main cast, akin to The Walking Dead.
