Fear the Walking Dead is about to enter its 6th season, with most reports stating it will be an anthology season, in the same vein as the savior episodes of The Walking Dead.
When it started, Fear followed a couple of Los Angeles families as the outbreak began to tear society apart. The original premise for the show was that it was going to be a series that explored the early days of the virus, however, over its five-season run, that has changed dramatically.
The first three seasons were quite consistent with characters and tone, giving the impression that Madison Clark would be the series' Rick Grimes through its run. However, when showrunner Dave Erickson left the show at the end of season 3, the series essentially rebooted itself. The focus shifted to having Morgan from the main series become the lead and the remaining characters from Fear began to exhibit different personality traits to the earlier seasons. Below are the worst episodes from the series run so far, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
Season 2 Episode 10: Do Not Disturb (55%)
The action of season two took place in three specific locations; a boat, Mexico, and then an island hotel. In this episode Travis and Chris travel through Mexico, after the group was separated a few episodes earlier. They meet a group of young men returning from spring break and Chris defends one of them by killing a farmer whose farm they were scavenging supplies from.
At the hotel, Alicia and Madison make their way through the hotel in search of Strand. Alicia meets the hotel manager, Elena, whose nephew was taking by a group of hotel wedding guests. They work together to clear the stairwells and save Elena’s nephew.
Season 4 Episode 8: No One’s Gone (55%)
This episode reveals the fate of Madison after audiences were left wondering why she wasn’t involved in any of the present-day scenes. Following the end of season three when the dam exploded, Madison encountered Althea. After providing Althea with a story, Madison is given supplies and sets off to find her kids.
In the present, when Alicia finds the videotape of her mother, she begins to recount to the rest of the group, the events that transpired at the stadium. When walkers overran the community, Madison led them inside the stadium to give the others a chance to escape and then set the walkers on fire.
Season 4 Episode 15: I Lose People (50%)
In the penultimate episode of season four, Alicia and Charlie rescue Strand and John with the SWAT vehicles following the storm. They are able to restrain a weakened Martha, the villain for the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, Morgan and the others are trapped inside a hospital with a herd of walkers closing in. Althea is nowhere to be found but the others escape via a freight elevator with Morgan staying behind to cause a distraction. Alicia’s group are able to find them via radio and arrive at the hospital to lend a hand.
Season 3 Episode 14: El Matadero (50%)
This was the final appearance of the character Ofelia, after she was bitten by a walker in the previous episode. Madison organizes for Daniel to be reunited with Ofelia but as he arrives, she passes away without getting to say goodbye. The next day Daniel offers Madison and her group the opportunity to join him at the dam.
Elsewhere, Nick and Troy revel in the delights of the bazaar by eating new foods, drinking, and taking drugs. Whilst Alicia, embarks on a supply scavenging mission and encounters another survivor, Diana.
Season 5 Episode 11: You’re Still Here (46%)
This is an uneventful episode that feels like it’s mainly there to exist as filler. Morgan and Al encounter Logan and his group, who demand to know the location of the oil fields. Logan having seen Al’s tape of Morgan, taunts him about losing his family and how helping others won’t change things.
The other portions of the episode follow Alicia and Strand take Wes back to the police station he has been living in. Whilst inside, someone steals their truck, so Alicia and Wes pursue him to get back his belongings.
Season 5 Episode 6: The Little Prince (42%)
It’s worth mentioning that three episodes earlier, Dwight from the main series was another character to join the crew. He was last seen being excommunicated by Daryl and told to find his wife, Sherry.
Whilst, Morgan and the rest of the group attempt to rebuild their plane with the help of their new allies John Dorie joins Dwight in his search for Sherry. On their search, John finds a note from Sherry telling Dwight to stop looking for her as she fears he will die trying. John decides to hide this information from Dwight and they continue their search.
Season 5 Episode 7: Still Standing (36%)
The following episode is another slow burn with Alicia being brought to the treehouse hideout and tries to convince them to come with her. The rest of the group finds a hole in the plane and in desperate need of fuel, Al takes June to the place she had previously been there with Isabelle (a woman from the group that took Rick Grimes).
Continuing their search for Sherry, John is compelled to tell Dwight about the letter. Dwight is upset at first but admits he understands why John hid the letter from him and vows to continue searching for her.
Season 5 Episode 12: Ner Tamid (36%)
In the 65th episode of the series, Charlie encounters a Rabbi locked up in his Synagogue. She leads John and June to the temple with a battery to keep the eternal flame alight. They help them escape whilst Sarah calls June on the radio explaining that Logan is in pursuit of them.
Dwight and Sarah run out of fuel and Logan’s group surrounds them. However, the group suddenly leaves as, unbeknownst to the group, Logan's convoy have found the oil fields. John and the others arrive and it reveals that Jacob has now joined the group.
Season 5 Episode 16: End of the Line (23%)
In the season finale, Virginia and her group arrive at Humbugs Gulch in response to Morgan’s distress call and they clear out the walkers. She splits the group up, sending them to various communities. It’s revealed by the community doctor that Grace isn’t dying but in fact pregnant and suffering malnourishment.
Once everyone is taken away, Virgina shoots Morgan in the chest and then attempts to shoot him in the face but the gun shoots a blank. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as the fate of where the characters are taken is left unknown and Morgan is left to bleed out with walkers closing in.
Season 5 Episode 15: Channel 5 (17%)
The penultimate episode of season five works to set up the storyline for the next season. The group sees a documentary created by Virginia, trying to lure more followers into her group which motivates Al to create a counter documentary. The group determines they are close to an old western town that could work as a permanent settlement called Humbugs Gulch.
When they finally arrive at the Gulch they find it is overrun by walkers and with no other option, Morgan suggests they radio Virginia for help. Dwight disagrees with the decision and decides to leave the group.
