Netflix has released a new trailer for Fear Street Part Two: 1978, giving a detailed look at the sequel’s Friday the 13th-inspired summer camp slasher scares. Fear Street Part One: 1994 released on the streamer on July 2 to a favorable critical reception. The second part of Netflix’s trilogy will release on July 9, and the third and final chapter, Fear Street Part Three: 1666, will premiere on July 16.

Based on the novels by Goosebumps creator R. L. Stine, Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy focuses on the town of Shadyside, which has been plagued by violence and murder for hundreds of years, all connected to the killing of a witch in the 17th century. The first film saw teenage partners Deena (Kiana Madeira) and Sam (Olivia Scott Welch) running from a number of supernatural terrors after reawakening the town’s curse. In the sequel, much more of the history of Shadyside will be unveiled.

The new Fear Street 2 trailer introduces newcomers Ziggy Bergman (Sadie Sink) and Tommy Slater (McCabe Slye) – teenage campers at Shadyside’s nearby Camp Nightwing. Summer starts off innocuously enough with lake swimming and practical jokes, but things quickly get much darker when the town curse comes into play and an axe-wielding murderer begins stalking the members of the camp. There are a lot of aesthetic allusions to Friday the 13th in the trailer, promising what looks to be a great homage for classic slasher fans. The retro summer aesthetic of Fear Street 2, Sink’s leading role, and the film’s Netflix Original status all give off big Stranger Things vibes, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The first film has been praised for both its loyalty to the source material and its excellent treatment of classic horror tropes. Given that all three films were produced together, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Fear Street Part Two will be just successful in those regards. And for longtime fans of the genre, the summer camp setting is a great throwback.

If Fear Street continues to be a success for Netflix, other films may release similarly on the streamer going forward. The idea of producing three films as a unit and releasing one per week over a three-week span, as Fear Street is doing, is one of the many ways that Netflix has embraced the unique opportunities of streaming recently. As the company produces more and more of its own original films, the trilogy could act as a kind of blueprint. Fear Street Part Two: 1978 releases on July 9.
