Netflix and RL Stine's Fear Street gets a new trailer, previewing the centuries spanning film trilogy coming to the streamer this summer. The iconic horror author Stine has plenty of novels ripe for adaptation, but Fear Street has been in development since 2015, originally intended to be one film. Now, Fear Street will be released as a three film trilogy that encompasses three different time periods - 1666, 1978, and 1994 - in the small Ohio town of Shadyside.
In 1994, a group of teens will be ensnared in a series of terrifying events, the origins of which began centuries earlier. Their interest in these events will make them a target for a mysterious new killer with ties to the past. Fear Street has an expansive cast, including Stranger Things' Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink, Community's Gillian Jacobs, Olivia Welch, Kiana Madeira, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ashley Zukerman, and Jordana Spiro.
Little was known about Fear Street up until now. Netflix has finally released a trailer for the trilogy of films, revealing the centuries-spanning events of the series and the day each entry will be coming to the streamer. The one-minute clip begins with the words, "We're all cursed. The witch is real," before diving into a montage of the horrifying events in Shadyside. Fear Street will release over three consecutive weeks, with Part 1 hitting the streamer on July 2, followed by Part 2 on July 9, and Part 3 on July 16. Check out the full clip below:
Netflix is known for popularizing the binge model when it comes to some of their most popular series, but this will be the first time the streamer does this with a trio of films. The runtime of each part is not clear, but they will likely give horror fans plenty to sink their teeth into throughout the month of July. Stine has touted the films as heavily R-rated, meaning they won't shy away from the more gruesome aspect of his books, despite the fact that they were originally geared towards young adults.
Fear Street is part of an exciting slate of Netflix originals coming to the streamer. Netflix will kick off the summer with Army of the Dead before releasing a slew of high-profile films in the following months. The streamer will also aim to enter the awards conversation this fall with films like Adam McKay's Don't Look Up and Blonde, a Marilyn Monroe biopic starring Ana de Armas. Fear Street will be the one to satisfy horror fans, though, and from the looks of the trailer, it will be just as terrifying as the nightmares the books inspired in many of the Stine's young fans.
