Jaws dropped when Tamaris Sepulveda broke up with Niko Pilalis and Casey Johnson, keeping $100,000 for herself, becoming FBoy Island's first FGirl. Tamaris knew neither man was the right one for her and broke up with both guys. At the final elimination, she said, "Niko, I feel you can't handle me, and our lives can't mesh together. Casey, you're good with your words, and you have opened up to me. But I'm not sure if you're being honest. I choose myself. I can't be anyone's girl! I came here as an FGirl... At the end of the day, I had to choose myself."

Casting for FBoy Island has been criticized by fans for blurring lines between Nice Guys and FBoys, but the show's creator Elan Gale says that's intentional. With Tamaris being the first official FGirl, comparisons are being made to season 1's CJ Franco. Tamaris and CJ had impeccable FBoy detection skills. Fans speculate that CJ would have made the same choice but went with the safest option to secure the money. If anything can be said, Casey has a type, FGirls.

FBoy Island casting FGirls is a huge deal. A women's character is labeled as any number of derogatory words such as a temptress, s**t, b*tch, seductress, etc. Self-proclaimed FBoys wear their title with pride, and Tamaris' embracing being an FGirl is a power move. Being an FGirl takes knowing yourself because, as Tamaris said, "sometimes you have to choose yourself, and that's never a bad thing." By openly empowering FGirls, HBO Max has leveled the playing field in reality dating shows, and according to Showbiz Cheatsheet, Gale, who created Fboy Island, has big plans to "create what I'm calling the 'F-person Cinematic Universe including Fboy Island, Fgirl Island, and Fperson Hotel.'"

Tamaris Flipped The Script

So often, in dating shows, women are at a distinct disadvantage, and despite red flags, women are discouraged from leaving single. Even the ABC reality series The Bachelorette, arguably the most pro-female dating show, has only had one Bachelorette in 19 seasons not get proposed to, and that was in 2005. Like Tamaris, Jennifer Schefft Waterman trusted her intuition and realized that she needed to choose herself. Unlike Jennifer, who would likely not have labeled herself an FGirl, Tamaris, who didn't choose anyone in the Fboy Island finale, has embraced prioritizing herself, recognizing "these guys wanted something more than I could offer them. Guys have been breaking up with girls and hurting them for years...this is nothing new, and it's not like a smack in the face like they didn't see it coming." Tamaris had reflected multiple times that she "was a little FGirl" during the season, but it wasn't until the final decision that it made "the big splash" she had hoped to make, as Today reported.

FGirl Tamaris Resonates With Gen Z

Tamaris' powerfully prioritizing her needs resonates with a new generation of viewers. While Tamaris is a younger Millenial, she has adapted Gen Z attitudes, which was evident in Fboy Island season 2. Vice reported, "In your early twenties, people put an emphasis on casual sex to find what you like and kind of get it all out of your system before you settle down in your late twenties or early thirties," as opposed to millennials that married younger. For reality dating shows to pull in the next generation, they need to modernize with trends. Love Island tries but misses the mark by continuing to disempower female contestants. FBoy Island is doing what Love Island can't, openly promoting women who can prioritize themselves while choosing to be confidently single, which speaks to Gen Z values. However, some older female fans believe this way of thinking makes women look bad. Some men also struggled with the twist as they believe this may influence women to turn away from love.

Fans wonder if the twists next season could involve bringing back Tamaris and CJ together. A new twist in Fboy Island season 3 could also have two-time runner-up Casey weeding through Nice Girls and FGirls. With HBO Max's unscripted shows speculated to be absorbed into the Discovery+ platform, viewers hope FBoy Island survives and Tamaris' parting words of "FGirl, F-Hi!" ring true as Discovery+ presumably takes over.
