Fate: The Winx Saga's showrunner, Brian Young, announced that the series has been canceled by Netflix and will not receive a third season. Fate: The Winx Saga first premiered on the streaming platform on January 22, 2021. The show is based on the animated Nickelodeon TV series Winx Club. It follows Bloom (Abigail Cowen), a young fairy who attends a boarding school called Alfea to learn to manage her magical fire powers and to learn more about her past. She and her classmates learn to hone their powers while struggling with the typical trials of high school and threats from ancient creatures.

Fate: The Winx Saga has mainly received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some enjoyed the fantasy elements of the series, its world-building, and the extra depth it gave the story as an adaption of the animated series. However, others criticized the series for having a poor plot and failing to add anything meaningful to the Winx franchise. At the same time, most agreed that the show still boasted solid performances and was entertaining, though it failed to be magical. Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 concluded on September 16, and viewers have been waiting for an update on the show's future.

Fate: The Winx Saga's showrunner, Young, took to social media to announce that the series will not return for a third season. While Young expressed sadness at Netflix's decision to cancel the show, he also expressed gratitude for his experience on the set, which he described as "four amazing years." He indicated that he was proud of everyone who contributed to the series and hoped to see them again. Check out his statement below:

News of the cancelation is even more disappointing considering that Young had already had plans and ideas for a potential third season. Young had recently teased that Fate: The Winx Saga season 3 would dive further into Bloom's past and the Realm of Darkness. At the end of season 2, Bloom, who was adopted, learns that her biological mother had magical powers, too. However, she banished herself to the Realm of Darkness after losing control of them. After a battle with Sebastian (Éanna Hardwicke), a portal to the Realm of Darkness was left open. Bloom enters the portal to close it, and when she does, she discovers her birth mother. As a result, season 3 was to explore further what the Realm of Darkness is and Bloom and her mother's connection to it.

Little is known about the Realm of Darkness in Fate: The Winx Saga, especially because it wasn't a location in Winx Club. All that is known is that a dark and dangerous dimension gave way to several mysterious and powerful entities. Hence, it seemed that season 3 was poised to answer the portal's mysteries. It likely would've explored the brewing tension between fairies and Blood Witches that seemed to point to an impending Civil War. Fate: The Winx Saga season 3 had plenty of secrets and mysteries to explore, making its cancelation even more frustrating to the show's cast, crew, and fans.
