Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is releasing on modern systems in October, and it's adding a lot of new content to the game. The original Maiden of Black Water was a Wii U exclusive back in 2014, but it was revealed during the last Nintendo Direct that the game is being revived on PC and consoles, which means that Wii U GamePad support is gone.

Like the other games in the Fatal Frame series, the weapon of choice for the playable characters in Maiden of Black Water is a camera, which has the ability to damage ghosts when it takes their picture. This mechanic meant that Maiden of Black Water was the perfect fit for the Wii U, as the GamePad was used as the camera. Unfortunately, the Wii U failed to attract the same numbers as the Wii, DS, or even the 3DS, so Maiden of Black Water was mostly overlooked during its initial release.

The fact that Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is no longer shackled to the Wii U means it has received a number of improvements, including better graphics and a new control scheme that eschews the GamePad. The trailer for Maiden of Black Water on the Koei Tecmo YouTube channel has revealed some of the new content that will be added in the upcoming version of the game.

Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water's New Costumes

Fatal Frame New Costumes

Maiden of Black Water will add new costumes, which are likely replacing the Nintendo-exclusive outfits from the Wii U version. The people who purchase Maiden of Black Water within two weeks of its launch can claim a Ryza costume from Atelier Ryza for Yuri. Three other costumes were revealed during the trailer. The first costume is a leather jacket & tartan miniskirt combo, the second is a red top with yellow arrows on the left side, and the third is a fancy Victorian nightgown. The DLC will also add costumes, which are detailed below.

A Photo Mode Will Come To Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water

Fatal Frame's Photo Mode

Maiden of the Black Water is adding a Photo Mode, which will allow players to set up character models for screenshots. This seems to be an expansive mode, rather than just letting the player move the camera a little bit (like FF7 Remake Intergrade's photo mode). The Photo Mode in Maiden of Black Water lets players place a number of objects in the frame, change their pose, and gives them lots of options for the camera itself, in order to take the best shot possible.

Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Will Get 20th Anniversary DLC

Fatal Frame Party Members

Maiden of Black Water will have DLC that is centered around the 20th anniversary of the Fatal Frame series. A Digital Deluxe Edition for Maiden of Black Water is planned and it will include the DLC. The 20th Anniversary DLC will have behind-the-scenes materials for Fatal Frame, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented, and Maiden of Black Water. This will include artwork from the games. The DLC comes with a digital artbook with content from the series. People who purchase the DLC will also receive new costumes, which are based on outfits worn by other Fatal Frame characters. Yuri will have costumes based on Mio Amakura and Rei Kurosawa, Miu will have two costumes based on Miku Hinasaki and one based on Mayu Amakura, and Ren will have a costume based on Kei Amakura. The price for the DLC has yet to be revealed.
