A Marvel fan dresses up as Fat Thor from Avengers: Endgame with perfectly-timed lightning strike in the background. Chris Hemsworth's MCU character went through a massive transformation in the five-year gap in between Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap in Avengers: Infinity War and the idea of the time heist came up. By the time Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) found him in New Asgard, he gained a significant amount of weight, dubbing him his new nickname.

The change in Thor was motivated by the piled-up trauma he suffered in the last several years. It started with the death of Frigga (Rene Russo) in Thor: The Dark World followed by Odin's (Anthony Hopkins) in Thor: Ragnarok, and then Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) in Infinity War. On top of that, he also lost most of his friends, alongside many of the Asgardians after the destruction of Asgard. His failure to stop Thanos from enacting the decimation pushed him over the cliff. To cope with his depression, he became indifferent and checked out of his responsibilities. He also stopped taking care of himself.

Since Endgame, Fat Thor has become a fan-favorite for cosplays. This latest attempt, however, includes an extra twist. Shared on Instagram by Debbie Wilson, the source takes a video of her sister dressed up as the character in Disneyland. As she wields the Mjölnir, lightning strikes in the background, similar to how it is in the MCU whenever the God of Thunder uses his hammer. Watch the clip below:

While Fat Thor has become extremely popular in terms of cosplayers, it's actually a divisive creative decision from the Russo brothers. Many questioned the real intention for the character's weight gain. Granted that it could be associated with his poor mental health at that point, the way it's treated for the most part of Endgame's remainder has people convinced that it's mainly for comedic purposes. The good thing is that it doesn't seem like the additional weight isn't going away magically. By the end of the film, when he had a better outlook, he's still sporting the same look.

That said, don't expect Fat Thor to be fully back in Thor: Love and Thunder. Based on set images, not to mention Hemsworth's workouts, the God of Thunder won't be carrying the extra weight anymore. It's unclear how Marvel Studios is planning to explain this. But it's mandatory that they do it in an effective way, otherwise, critics of this transformation in Endgame will be proven right. What's curious now is whether or not this heavier God of Thunder will ever be seen in the MCU again moving forward. Perhaps through a flashback explaining what exactly went down in the five years after the catastrophic snap.
