Daniela Melchior, who plays Isabel in Fast X, opens up about what the franchise has in store for her character. The Fast and Furious franchise has a prolific cast, with Fast X adding new talent in Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Jason Momoa, and Melchior. Melchior plays Isabel, a street racer Dom encounters in Brazil who is revealed to be the sister of Elsa Pataky's Elena, who met her demise in The Fate of the Furious. And while Isabel's screen time in Fast X is short, she is the aunt of young Bryan, making her yet another member of Dom's ever-growing family.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Melchior discussed what Isabel's future after Fast X could potentially entail. Given that her character is family, she inquired about motivations and what she knew of her sister's death, helping to fit into the feel of the franchise. According to the actor, Isabel is likely to appear in the coming sequels, as there are lingering story threads she could tie into, especially with Fast X ending on a cliffhanger. Furthermore, the character could have a future in the rumored Fast and Furious female-led spinoff. Check out Melchior's comments on Fast X and beyond below:

I thought about that as well, so I asked Vin those questions. I was like, “Does Isabel know that it was Cipher that killed Elena? Does Isabel think that it was your fault because you let it happen?” So I asked all of those questions to Vin, but because we didn’t know where the story would go after this tenth movie, he was just like, “Those are interesting questions. Think about them, but you don’t need to put anything in this movie about them right now.” So the way that I played it was that it was all in my head. I was putting some guilt on Dom, but we don’t actually know if Isabel even knows about Cipher’s existence.

Vin told me that when he was on the plane from Rome to Mexico, he talked with Louis [Leterrier] about the future of my character. And I was like, “Tell me everything!” but they didn’t tell me anything. We were having our last dinner in Mexico when they told me that, and we really couldn’t have that conversation there. So I’m very curious, but I’ll let them do their job. (Laughs.)

Daniela Melchior's Fast & Furious Franchise Future

When Melchior's Isabel first appears in Fast X, she is a mystery. While she is clearly a skilled street racer, the movie quickly lets on that there is more than meets the eye, with Dom protecting her over another character despite seemingly being better acquainted with the racer that perishes. Shortly after that, Isabel is revealed to be Elena's sister, which Dom knew, making her appearance both integral to the growing emotional stakes of the film and the plans the franchise looks to be crafting.

The Fast and Furious franchise was meant to end with the eleventh installment. Still, Diesel teased a twelfth film at the premiere of Fast X. With Fast X leaving a lot to resolve, characters like Isabel feel set up to return, becoming a more significant part as the franchise pushes toward its proposed end. While the details of Isabel's return are still unknown, the character will likely face conflict if she learns the details surrounding her sister's death or even play a more prominent role in Dom and young Bryan's life.

The series has also teased details about a Fast and Furious female-led spinoff movie, for which Isabel seems to be a perfect fit. Introducing a character with deep familial ties this late in the franchise seems like they want to round out the roster for the female-led film, which could potentially involve the numerous woman of the series, with Gal Gadot now back or even Charlize Theron's Cipher making for a villain, given she killed Elena. Further details on the future of the Fast and Furious franchise will be forthcoming as plans develop.
