Fast & Furious franchise star Charlize Theron reveals her funny condition for doing a Cipher spinoff movie. Before it’s over, every actor in Hollywood will have starred in a Fast and Furious movie. Oscar-winner Theron for her part has already been in two, and will appear again in next year’s Fast X.

The Fast and Furious franchise was of course already well-established as a global box office juggernaut when Theron jumped aboard as the mysterious villain Cipher in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious. And the Monster Oscar-winner enjoyed the experience enough that she returned for another go-around in 2021’s F9: The Fast Saga. By now Theron is a franchise veteran, and Cipher has become a familiar figure in the mix of the ever-expanding Fast and Furious series.

Expansion is indeed the name of the game now for the box office fixture that is Fast and Furious. The high-octane franchise got into the spinoff business with 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, and now there is talk of another spinoff focused on Theron’s Cipher and perhaps other female characters. Theron for her part seems down for a Cipher spinoff, but her agreement comes with one amusing condition. "If Dame Helen Mirren does it, I'm in,” the actor recently told ET (via ComicBook.com). Mirren of course has herself appeared in three Fast and Furious franchise films, playing the matriarch of the Shaw clan.

What A Fast & Furious Cipher Spinoff Could Be About

Charlize Theron as Cipher in a flight simulator in F9

The mysterious hacker and terrorist Cipher has obviously created a lot of problems for Dom Toretto and his crew over the course of her two appearances in the Fast and Furious movies. In that time, the character has revealed herself to be incredibly cunning and utterly relentless (and so far unkillable). She is also clearly an evil psychopath who only cares about satisfying her need for power. Presumably, any Cipher-led Fast and Furious spinoff would have to soften the character somewhat, making her into more of an anti-hero than a pure villain. This might be tough to pull off given the character as already established, but Theron certainly is more-than-capable of adding shadings to Cipher if called upon to do so.

The biggest question though is whether a Cipher spinoff would really focus on her alone, or would be a movie centered on multiple female Fast and Furious characters. If more female characters come aboard the film, then Cipher might be able to continue on as a pure villain. The hacking angle of the character certainly opens up possibilities for a fun techno-thriller or heist film, likely with a strong action element (this being a Fast and Furious spinoff). If one thing is certain about any potential Fast & Furious Cipher spinoff, it’s that Mirren and Theron will have to share the screen, otherwise Theron seemingly is not on-board.
