Fast X star Michelle Rodriguez teases Letty's future in the Fast & Furious franchise following the conclusion of the finale. Rodriguez first joined the franchise in its debut outing back in 2001, reprising the role for most of the sequels, including Louis Leterrier's Fast X. The most recent film is expected to serve as the first part of a grand finale for the core characters, with one or potentially even two additional films in the works that will conclude the Fast Saga.
In a recent interview with Variety regarding the approaching end of the Fast Saga, Rodriguez teases that Letty's role in Fast & Furious could continue even after the finale. "You pass the baton on, you take the backseat, you go passenger side, you do all of these things. When it comes to the next generation you have to [sit shotgun] it’s the only way to let them define the future.”
How Legacy Characters Can Return In Future Fast & Furious Movies
Rogriguez's answer regarding Letty's future in the Fast & Furious universe can actually be applied to other legacy characters like Dom (Vin Diesel), Mia (Jordana Brewster), Han (Sung Kang), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), and Tej (Chris "Ludacris" Bridges). While these characters' time in the spotlight may be coming to an end, it's fair to assume that the world of Fast & Furious will live on in the form of spinoffs and potentially even a new saga after Fast & Furious 11 or Fast & Furious 12 is released.
New characters like Brie Larson's Tess, Daniela Melchior's Isabel, or Nathalie Emmanuel's Ramsey could all carry the franchise forward, with legacy players returning in more of a supporting capacity. It's also possible that a major time jump could occur after the finale, with Dom's son eventually growing up to have his own adventures alongside Brian (the late Paul Walker) and Mia's son.
Crucially, however, whether the saga concludes with Fast & Furious 11 or a twelfth film, it should give the core group of characters a proper sendoff instead of just teeing them up for future cameos or supporting roles. While there's no reason why legacy characters can't return in whatever is next for the Fast & Furious franchise, it also feels long overdue that the Fast Saga spins its wheels down and delivers a proper ending to a story that now spans over two decades.
