Dwayne Johnson's Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw is officially filming. Since joining the street racing, nitrous oxide fueled franchise, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has taken it to new heights. Introduced in Fast Five as an antagonist, he quickly began teaming up with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew. However, as egos grew, so did the competition to be the lead between Johnson and Diesel. While Diesel will remain the lead of the main entries, Johnson is getting a spinoff movie that pairs him up with Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw.

Hobbs & Shaw has been in development for a while, but got some major news earlier this year when Deadpool 2 director David Leitch signed on. The movie looks to be a team-up movie between the former adversaries, but it will be the threat of Idris Elba's villain that brings Hobbs and Shaw on the same side. It won't be too long now before Johnson and Statham reunite as filming is officially underway.

Leitch teased the start of production yesterday on Instagram while sharing his excitement for week one of the NFL season, even offering a look at the film's possible logo at this point. But, it is actually Johnson who shared the first look from production on his Instagram. Even though he has yet to start filming, Hobbs & Shaw is now filming its first day. Johnson shared the first image from the film, featuring Statham and Leitch talking between takes.

It was previously reported that Hobbs & Shaw would begin filming this September, so this start isn't shocking, but a necessary and positive step. There's unfortunately no context to the photo, but Shaw has unsurprisingly found himself surrounded by the high-end cars Fast & Furious continues to use. Hopefully he isn't just standing around them and this is the beginning of a great chase sequence. For Johnson, he's not currently in London to film as he's still in the midst of shooting Disney's Jungle Cruise with Emily Blunt.

Even though Statham is the only Shaw in this photo, Mission: Impossible - Fallout's Vanessa Kirby is reportedly joining the movie as Shaw's sister. If her casting was finalized, she'll get to play the "boss" character that Hobbs & Shaw looks to have. Even though Kirby and Elba are the two major additions to the cast, they won't be the only ones. They're reportedly recasting Hobbs' daughter and will also need some additional friends and foes as well. Now that filming has begun, the rest of the casting announcements may be on the way.
