Luke Hobbs doesn't drive a fast and fancy car. He doesn't spend his days and nights drag racing in the streets. Indeed, Hobbs just likes to kick butt and bring the bad guys to justice. Although, he likes to coach his daughter's soccer team in his free time. He's fearless, charming and built like a brick house. Regardless, there are a few facts about Hobbs that make little sense.

The first film in the Fast and Furious franchise hit theatres in 2001. It did well at the box office and with critics. It now includes 8 movies with two more and a spinoff on the way. It's one of the highest grossing movie franchises. Dwayne Johnson portrays DSS Agent Luke Hobbs in the series. He first appeared in 2011's Fast Five and each one since. He quickly took the spotlight from the main stars and is crucial to the series. As a matter of fact, the spinoff is all about Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. Regardless, Hobbs isn't as perfect as he seems. The series has done some strange things as well. Cars fly through the sky and Dominic Toretto can survive anything. Hobbs is the same.

Hobbs is a great addition to the series and really freshened it up. He's the ultimate hero that never quits. At the same time, he's also the hero that doesn't make any sense. He'll save the day but with tons of plot holes. It's time to take a closer look at Luke Hobbs.

Here are 20 Things That Don't Make Sense About Hobbs.

HOBBS CHOICE OF CARS

The Rock Hobbs Radio in Fate of the Furious

Dominic Torretto has always liked cars that go fast. On the other hand, Luke Hobbs likes a big strong vehicle. While the rest of the crew is all about speed, he's all about power. Hobbs has driven a Gurkha LAPV, Navistar International and the Ice Ram. Clearly, he likes big, tough cars, over fast ones.

That does make it tough to keep up with everyone else. Hobbs might want to try using a car that'll at least keep up with the rest. To be fair, he causes serious damage and looks good while doing it. He's certainly been behind the wheel of a few cool cars. Regardless, they pale in comparison to the beasts that Dom drives.

HE FAILS IN HIS MISSION BEFORE NEEDING THE HELP OF CRIMINALS

Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs in Fast and Furious 7

DSS agent Luke Hobbs has been on many missions. He chased Dom and his crew all over Brazil. Later, he tracked Owen Shaw all over the world. In fact, he even travels to Germany to track down an EMP device. He had a lot of responsibilities and missions. Regardless, he actually failed in all of his missions.

In each case, Hobbs had to turn to criminals to help him succeed. He's never been able to do it on his own with his team. He resorts to teaming up with Dom and later with nemesis Deckard Shaw. It's a bit confusing that he's a top DSS Agent. He's rarely successful in his missions without help.

IT'S EASY TO OUTSMART HOBBS

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Rising to the top of the DSS requires skills, strength, and smarts. Apparently, Luke Hobbs only has two of those. Just about every criminal he faces is able to get the better of him. Dom and his crew escape with millions and Owen Shaw plants a mole on his team. In fact, Dom's able to trick Hobbs more than once.

Regardless, Hobbs considers Dom a brother. That's not to say Hobbs isn't smart at all. Indeed, he turns the tables on Dom many times. For instance, Tej plants a tracker on Hobbs' vehicle only to find out Hobbs planted one on Dom. Clearly, it's easy to outsmart Hobbs but he's good at turning the tables.

HIS MYSTERIOUS PAST

In the last few Fast and Furious movies, Hobbs takes on a bigger role. Indeed, he's now getting his own spinoff. However, Hobbs has the least amount of character development. He reveals nothing about his past or family. For the most part, the other characters have a past and background.

At the very least, they reveal a little about their criminal backgrounds. They also have romantic interests. Hobbs is just there to chase the villains and beat them up. He doesn't explain where he came from or his past missions. Additionally, his daughter suddenly shows up in the hospital. There's no mention of his family or any personal details. Mr. Nobody does briefly mention Luke's sister. Hopefully, Hobbs & Shaw explores his past and family life.

HE COACHES GIRLS SOCCER IN HIS FREE TIME

Fate of the furious behind the scenes dwayne johnson and soccer game

Hobbs spent most of his career chasing bad guys, dodging bullets and blowing things up. He has a very hard job with long hours. He's always putting his life on the line to accomplish his goals. Presumably, he'd go fishing or relax on a beach in his free time.

He likes to spend his free time coaching his daughter Samantha's soccer team. Indeed, he turns the Red Dragons into a fierce team. It's common for fathers to coach their child's sports team. However, he applies the same style with the girls as he does at work. Basically, the other team's the bad guys. Later, Hobbs decides to stay at home and spend more time with Samantha.

HE'S NOT MAD ABOUT DOM TRICKING HIM

In Fast Five, Hobbs chases after Dom and his crew. He makes it his goal to bring them to justice. Of course, Dom and Brian aren't the real criminals. Hobbs ends up working with them to bring down the local gangster, Hernan Reyes. Hobbs immediately trusts Dom and forms a team. In the end, Dom tricks Hobbs and steals a vault full of money.

He does help Hobbs bring down the bad guys. Regardless, Dom makes a fool out of Hobbs. However, it doesn't seem to bother him too much. Despite spending the entire movie chasing Dom. In fact, he has a pretty good laugh about it. In reality, he should be a little more upset.

HE DOESN'T SMILE UNTIL THE END OF FAST FIVE

Hobbs enters Rio for the first time in Fast Five

There's one thing that's certain about Luke Hobbs. He's one serious guy. Clearly, he takes his job very seriously. It's easy to see that from his first appearance in Fast Five. In fact, Hobbs doesn't smile in the entire movie until the very end.

To be fair he really doesn't have a reason to smile. However, the reason he does smile makes little sense. He ends up smiling because Dom and the crew trick him. That seems like an odd reason to smile for the first time. In this case, he should be a bit more upset. He just lost a bank vault of money. He should be crying not laughing. It's also possible that he's laughing at himself.

HOBBS WAS ORIGINALLY ENVISIONED AS GRUFF AND OLD

Hobbs (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) with gun - The Fate of the Furious

There were always plans to add a character named Luke Hobbs to the series. However, the idea changed a lot over time. Initially, Hobbs was going to be a gruff and rough old man working for the DSS. In fact, Tommy Lee Jones was in consideration for the role. That all changed when a fan on Twitter wanted to see Vin Diesel clash with Dwayne Johnson on screen.

Diesel loved the idea and the role went to Johnson. The re-casting also changed Hobbs as he was no longer an old man. Instead, he became a veteran DSS agent with gigantic muscles. An older DSS agent struggling to catch the bad guys might have worked a bit better.

HE'S ANGRY ABOUT SHAW'S PASSING

Hobbs Leads the Crew in Fate of the Furious

Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw are bitter enemies. Shaw severely injures Hobbs and puts him in the hospital. Later, they participate in a prison riot that results in both getting out. However, Hobbs and Shaw must work together and with Dom's crew. Of course, they're both reluctant and don't trust the other.

While on a chase, Dom shoots Shaw and he passes from his injuries. Hobbs becomes upset and emotional when he finds out. In fact, he punches the wall so hard it leaves a big dent. This makes little sense considering they've tried to end each other before. They even threaten each other numerous times while working as a team. Turns out it was just an elaborate ruse to bring down the bad guys. Still, he didn't know and his reaction makes little sense.

HE LEAVES HIS DAUGHTER AT THE HOSPITAL

Luke Hobbs works very hard at his job and puts it before everything in his life. Although, he might have his priorities a little mixed up. Shaw seriously injures Hobbs and he ends up in the hospital. He suffers several injuries and a broken arm. Luckily, his daughter Samantha keeps him company. That's until Dom needs his help.

A severely injured Hobbs leaves his daughter at the hospital to help Dom. The hospital might seem like a safe place but Shaw's running around blowing up the city. Parking garages are imploding and helicopters are falling from the sky. To be fair, Hobbs is partially responsible for the damage. Next time he might want to take his daughter to safety first.

HIS INTERROGATION METHODS

DSS agents must adhere to a strict set of rules and policies when conducting an interrogation. Well, unless it's Luke Hobbs. Apparently, Hobbs follows a different set of rules. While tracking Owen Shaw he captures a suspect. Hobbs literally beats the guy up in the interrogation room. As a matter of fact, he pretty much destroys the room.

His partner even shrugs off his violent methods as being normal. Hopefully, not all DSS agents treat their suspects like that. Granted, Hobbs did get the information he was looking for. Regardless, beating up a suspect as to be against the rules. At the very least he has to pay for damages to the room.

HE GIVES DOM AND BRIAN A 24 HOUR HEAD START

Hobbs in The Fate of the Furious

At the end of Fast Five, Hobbs and Dom work as a team to bring down Hernan Reyes. It's odd that a law enforcement officer works with the criminals he was hunting. However, they're successful in their mission. Hobbs could have returned to work a hero capturing both Reyes and Dom. Instead, Hobbs lets Dom and Brian have a 24-hour head start.

There isn't a point to the head start. There's really no point in chasing them either. He might as well forget about it or he's going to have more work to do. On top of that, Dom and his crew fool Hobbs again by stealing the bank vault.

DOM TRICKS HIM AGAIN

There's one thing Dom's better at than driving. That's tricking Luke Hobbs. He truly seems to have a special skill for it. In Fate of the Furious, Dom's blackmailed into working for Cipher. It just so happens that Hobbs needs Dom and the crew to track an EMP device. Luckily, that's exactly what Dom needed to happen.

Dom double crosses Hobbs and steals the device. He even runs Hobbs off the road and flips his car. Once again, Hobbs blindly trusts Dom. In addition, Hobbs ends up going to jail because of it. He ends up taking the fall and Dom gets away. There's a very good chance that Hobbs will trust Dom again. Also, Dom will probably betray him again too.

LOCAL POLICE ARE CROOKS BUT HE TRUSTS ELENA

In Fast Five, Luke Hobbs and his team travel to Brazil in search of Dom and Brian. However, Hobbs soon realizes he has another obstacle standing in his way. He can't trust the local police because they're all crooks and are working for Hernan Reyes. He does request the assistance of a local officer, Elena Neves.

Hobbs looks into her past and assumes he can trust her. This was before he got to Brazil so he's basing this on info not from actually meeting her. Elena became an officer after the takedown of her husband. Hobbs assumes she can't be on Reyes' payroll. He's pretty much basing this all on a hunch.

HE CHANGES THE DIRECTION OF A TORPEDO WITH HIS HANDS

The Torpedo Passes Hobbs Car in Fate of the Furious

If Superman ever needs a replacement, Luke Hobbs can step in. Hobbs is truly the Superman of Fast and Furious. He has superhuman strength and can pretty much outmuscle anyone. To be fair, he does have gigantic arms. He might be very strong but he still defies reality. At one point, he's able to very easily break his handcuffs. In Fate of the Furious, the crew ends up in a car chase on ice.

Cipher shoots a torpedo at Dom and the crew. Luckily, Hobbs has a simple solution. He hangs out of his vehicle and turns the missile. That's right, Hobbs is able to physically change the missile's direction. The crew's lucky to have someone with such amazing talent. Although, he's lucky the missile didn't explode when he touched it.

HE SUDDENLY HAS A DAUGHTER

Hobbs' personal life and past are still a mystery. There's very little information about his life prior to his first appearance. He actually had very little character development. Additionally, most of the changes happen out of the blue. In Furious 7, Dom visits Hobbs in the hospital after his encounter with Shaw.

Dom's surprised to find out Hobbs has a daughter. He's not the only one. At no point did Hobbs mention he had a child or family. He seems like a typical law enforcement officer whose life revolves around work. Add to that he has Samantha stay at the hospital and nobody else seems to join them. There's a chance there will be more changes to Hobbs in the upcoming spinoff.

HE STARTS WORKING WITH SHAW

Hobbs and Shaw Fate of the Furious

Hobbs might seem like a mean and tough guy but he's actually very forgiving. In fact, he teams up with the criminals he's chasing. Initially, Hobbs and Shaw hate each other's guts. They even try to end each other a few times. Regardless, they end up becoming friends and work as a team.

They easily put their past problems behind them and fight bad guys. It's a bit odd that Hobbs and Shaw become a team. In Fate of the Furious, Hobbs and Shaw have a brief bonding moment. Apparently, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. However, Shaw's committed some serious crimes and should be in jail. Instead, they become a team and star in their own spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw.

HE COULD NOT CATCH OWEN SHAW

Luke Hobbs is good at so many things but catching the bad guys isn't one of them. In Fast and Furious 6, Hobbs had been on a mission to catch Owen Shaw. He went all over the world but had no luck. As noted, he struggles to bring the bad guys in. He often requires help for unlikely sources. He then turns to Dom and his crew.

Once again, Hobbs turns to the criminals for help. It might be a bad idea for Shaw to form an alliance with Hobbs. There's a good chance they won't have any success. Dom bails Hobbs out more than once. In fact, Hobbs turns to them when he goes after the EMP device. Hopefully, other DSS agents are able to accomplish their objectives without help from criminals.

HE IS INVINCIBLE

Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs in Fate of the Furious wearing a sleeveless prison uniform

Luke Hobbs can survive just about any situation. Indeed, Dom and his crew defy gravity and logic all the time. Hobbs is the same in that he's pretty much invincible. As noted, Shaw once put Hobbs in the hospital with a broken arm. First, Hobbs survived a vicious beating before jumping out a window.

He saved Elena from an explosion and broke her fall. A normal man wouldn't get up from that. Not only does he get up. He leaves the hospital early and breaks the cast off his arm. That's just the beginning for Hobbs. During the prison escape, he withstands several painful rubber bullets. Later, he catches a grenade and throws it while surviving the blast. A normal human wouldn't be alive right now.

HE LOST A FIGHT TO DOM

Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto and Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs in Fast and Furious 5

Fast Five builds up to the ultimate showdown between Hobbs and Dom. It's clear that Hobbs has the advantage. He's twice his size and has giant muscles. As a matter of fact, one of Hobbs' muscles is bigger than Dom's head. He's also a trained DSS agent in combat and weapons. Additionally, Hobbs is invincible and has super strength.

Judging by the size difference alone Hobbs should have won. However, Hobbs is unable to defeat Dom. In fact, Dom straight up wins the fight. It should have been an easy win for Hobbs. Instead, Dom easily defeated him and even saved his life. Not only couldn't he beat Dom but he needed his help too. It wouldn't be the last time. Hopefully, Dom's available to help in the spinoff.
