The latest footage for Fast & Furious 9, recently revealed as F9, features a scene that could reveal a major moment from Dominic Toretto's past involving his father. The scene can be found in the action-packed trailer that played during Super Bowl LIV. Vin Diesel will once again portray the role of Dom alongside the return of franchise vets like Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Sung Kang. Former wrestler, John Cena, has also joined the F9 cast in a major role.

Over the course of The Fast Saga, only a few details surrounding the Toretto family have been unearthed. Other than Dom, Mia (Brewster) has been the only other Toretto up to this point to portray a primary character in the franchise. The siblings' parents never took center stage, but the family patriarch clearly had an influence on his children. It was stated that Dom and Mia's father often took his kids to church and hosted barbecues for the entire neighborhood. He also helped build the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, Dom's iconic car in the early days of The Fast Saga.

Dom and Mia's father had already passed away prior to the events of 2001's The Fast and the Furious. The movie revealed that he died while competing in a stock car race. The crash was caused by Kenny Linder, a fellow stock car racer. After the incident that killed his father, Dom attacked Kenny and beat him with a wrench. Kenny was severely injured, keeping him from racing ever again while Dom was sent to prison following the assault. This moment in Dom's life could be revisited in F9 according to the short clip showing a stock car race in the latest trailer.

How Dom's Past Will Heavily Tie Into F9

The accident in the F9 stockcar race.

Around the ten-second mark in F9's Super Bowl trailer, a quick look at a stock car race is featured. In the scene, a car clips the bumper of a black stock car, presumably belonging to Dom's father. The Fast and the Furious stated that Linder indirectly clipped Toretto's car, sending him into the wall at 120 mph before the vehicle burst into flames. Dom remembered hearing his father screaming after the crash, but it had actually been Dom screaming while witnessing the event. This flashback seemingly plays out the moment that instantly changed Dom's life as well as his sister's.

The flashback scene could also tie into the introduction of Jakob (Cena), Dom's villainous brother. It's possible that this stock car crash changed the Toretto family dynamic or caused some kind of falling out between the brothers. Dom's past will surely play a key role in F9 with a family member reentering his life. In doing so, The Fast Saga has the opportunity to shed more light on the Toretto family patriarch and what exactly was going on with the family prior to his tragic death.
