Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson will be returning for Fast & Furious 9. The Fast and Furious franchise started in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Every few years the series races back to theaters for the latest installment, which has proven to be a lucrative arrangement for Universal Studios.
Rodriguez' character of Letty Ortiz was introduced in the first film and stood as a love interest to Diesel's character Dominic Toretto. Her character began as a regular street racer, but later agrees to go undercover to expose Arturo Braga, which results in her becoming seriously injured and suffering from amnesia. As for Gibson's character, Roman Pearce first appeared in 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003. The character would then return to the series for Fast Five, where Roman and Letty shared their first scenes together. Both actors last appeared in The Fate of the Furious in 2017, but it appears they will be returning to the series for yet another ride.

According to That Hashtag Show, Rodriguez and Gibson will return for the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. While Letty and Roman have been main characters for most of the series, the announcement they are returning comes as a bit of a surprise since they have both threatened to leave the series in recent years. Gibson said that he wouldn't return for Fast and Furious 9 if Dwayne Johnson was a part of the film, and Rodriguez threatened to leave if the series didn't give females bigger roles in future films.
While Fast and Furious 9 has been delayed until 2020, fans can still expect the film to happen, with a tenth film ending the series in 2021. Fast and Furious 9 is thought to begin filming in April 2019, with Justin Lin returning to the series as director. Jordana Brewster will also return to her role as Mia Toretto, and Daniel Casey is writing the script for the film.
Fans might have to wait until 2020 to see Dom's next adventure with his crew, but the franchise will be getting a spinoff titled Hobbs and Shaw in 2019 starring Johnson and Jason Statham. While many fans are likely looking forward to the Rock's film, the entire Fast and Furious fanbase will likely be thrilled to hear that Letty and Roman are returning for Fast and Furious 9. Rodriguez and Gibson have played an important part in making previous films successful, and many people are likely to go to the theaters to see what Letty and Roman are up to in the crew's next adventure.
