Jason Statham recently opened up about the shocking revelation in the trailer for the upcoming Fast & Furious film F9 and where that revelation leaves his character within the franchise. The trailer for F9 was initially released in January, and it included one big surprise: the survival of the beloved character Han.

Han, played by Sung Kang, was an original member of Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) crew in the Fast & Furious franchise. However, in the third installment, Tokyo Drift, an unknown driver killed Han during a high-speed car chase. Tokyo Drift director, Justin Lin, directed the following few films in the franchise, all set before the events of Tokyo Drift, allowing Sung Kang to reprise his role until the sixth installment. In a mid-credits scene for Fast & Furious 6, audiences met Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, revealed as the driver that killed Han.  Statham goes on to be the primary antagonist of Furious 7 and a villain-turned-hero in both the eighth film and the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw

In a recent interview with EW, Jason Statham stated the reveal of Han’s survival in F9 made him want to return for another film.

"They better bring me back, because I need to put out that fire. If he's got any score to settle, it's with me."

Though Statham isn’t expected to be a part of F9, he said that he would love to do another movie for many reasons. "I'm game. I love Justin Lin, he's a great director," Statham said. "It's a shame because when I joined the franchise all those years back, he went on to do something else, and all I did with Justin was a little tag at the end. I need to do a movie with him. And I'd love to see all the Fast crew, Vin [Diesel] and everybody, they're all great people. I have a lot of affection for them."

Towards the end of last year, it was announced that the main Fast & Furious saga would end with two more films directed by Justin Lin. However, that doesn’t spell the end for the franchise as a whole which, due to the success of Hobbs & Shaw, has more films in the world of the franchise being developed. Given the nature of Han’s storyline, Justin Lin’s eagerness to do right by the character, and the willingness of Jason Statham, it doesn’t seem too far off that fans could get another glimpse of Deckard Shaw before the saga ends. In the meantime, they will be busy enough with learning more about Han’s survival in F9.
