A new Fast & Furious 9 poster depicts brothers Dominic and Jakob Toretto in vehicular combat, teasing action to come. F9 is the latest entry in the massively popular street racing action franchise centering around Dom (Vin Diesel), his sister Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), and their found family assembled over eight films. F9 was at one point supposed to release last year, but the pandemic pushed it back. Nevertheless, it's one of the most anticipated features of the upcoming summer.

The Fast & Furious films are chiefly about family, and F9 leans into that theme by introducing Jakob, played by John Cena, the estranged brother of Dom and Mia. Jakob is a super-criminal in league with the family's old enemy, Cipher, and he's out to seek vengeance against his brother. Dom famously stresses that he would never turn his back on a member of his family, so the very existence of Jakob has grand implications for the character and the franchise. F9 is set to drop a number of such bombs on the fanbase, including the return of presumed dead Han (Sung Kang) and the inclusion of an often-joked-about mission to space.

F9 revealed a gritty IMAX poster featuring the action audiences have come to love from the franchise. In keeping with the primary conflict of the film, it shows the estranged brothers locked in combat, each one driving a decidedly cool car. Evidently, they are racing through the jungle, and behind them, a less-than-fortunate automobile is propelled with explosive force into the air. In a fashion befitting the picture quality of IMAX, every grain of sand, every bit of burning car, and every polished square inch of their vehicles looks crisp.

F9 Poster

The poster does an excellent job of representing the two aspects of the Fast & Furious franchise. On the one hand, it displays the emotional theme of family conflict with the brothers head to head. On the other, the utter chaos around Dom and Jakob represents the off-the-wall insane action that the series has gradually worked its way up to since the first entry back in 2001.

As if to extend the theme of family and rekindle excitement in the wake of the pandemic, Universal is releasing every previous Fast & Furious film in theaters for free leading up to the release of F9. No doubt they hope to coax audiences out with promises of action and heart as movie distribution attempts to recover. Regardless of whether they make it out to the cinema to see it, audiences are sure to get exactly what they expect from Fast & Furious 9. Few franchises have been as consistent as Fast & Furious, and this poster, as well as exciting plot reveals, indicate that they've not yet dropped the ball.
