F9, is a major stepping stone to the epic finale of the Fast and Furious franchise, and the F9 cast is full of returning series regulars and new characters played by rappers and former rappers, as is the Fast and Furious way. For the ninth installment in the main series, F9 tells the next chapter in the story of Dominic Toretto and his formidable crew. The movie takes place years after the events of The Fate of the Furious and once again puts Dom's team at the center of a crisis that could change the world. F9's action-packed adventure uses multiple characters across different eras to tell this story.

From the humble beginnings of Fast and Furious' street racing and small crimes, the Fast Saga has become a giant action blockbuster series filled with increasingly unbelievable stunts and plots. Naturally, each new Fast & Furious movie stacks more Hollywood vets onto the franchise's ludicrously star-studded roster, and the Fast 9 cast is no different. Most of the main Fast & Furious characters are back to star, and there are several characters who return in Fast & Furious 9 after appearing in past entries too. The flashback-heavy film also brings younger versions of multiple characters into the story, ambitiously expanding the F9 cast.

Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto

Vin Diesel as Dom working on a car in F9

The star of the Fast & Furious franchise, Vin Diesel makes his eighth appearance as Dominic Toretto and once again leads F9's cast. Vin Diesel's lone absence was in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Now, Dom finds himself drawn back into the high-octane lifestyle once his brother, Jakob, reemerged. While Dom has to take on Cipher once again in the film, his primary F9 arc sees him confronting his past when he's reunited with his estranged brother. Diesel has previously starred in the action franchise xXx, Riddick, and his most recent movie appearance outside of the Fast & Furious franchise series is as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.

Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz

Michelle Rodriguez as Letty looking concerned in F9

Michelle Rodriguez makes her fifth appearance in the franchise with her F9 return as Letty Ortiz. Letty struggles to accept a domestic life in F9, so she jumps at the chance to go on a new mission. The character is even more enthused to get involved than her husband, Dom, and in F9, she's teamed up with Mia, and the two actually make a great fighting team. Rodriguez is also known for her roles in Avatar and Widows, and she most recently starred in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Though the movie bombed at the box office, it was overwhelmingly praised by critics with a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce

Roman looks scared in F9

The comedian of the Fast & Furious series and joining the F9 cast, Tyrese Gibson plays Roman Pearce. The character first appeared in 2 Fast 2 Furious and has returned for each film since Fast Five. Roman essentially plays the character of the fanbase in F9, as he questions everything that viewers would question, such as the movie's approach to physics and being immortal, and he literally goes to space with Tej in a rocket-powered Pontiac Fiero. Gibson has also appeared in Four Brothers and the Transformers franchise. The actor also starred in Morbius and will feature in the action thriller Hard Matter with Harvey Keitel.

Ludacris as Tej Parker

Tej in a field in F9

Ludacris also makes his sixth appearance in the Fast & Furious franchise with F9. The tech-savvy member of Dom's crew works with the team to track down the deadly device Jakob is pursuing. However, he is forced to go into space in the Pontiac with Roman, though Tej is way more enthusiastic about the whole mission. Ludacris is best known for his rapping career, but his on-screen work also includes Crash and Hustle & Flow. The actor will be the lead in the upcoming Disney+ Christmas movie, Dashing Through the Snow, which will be released during the 2023 Holiday season.

Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto

Mia looks serious when speaking with Letty in F9

Jordana Brewster returns in F9 as Dom's younger sister, Mia, marking her sixth appearance in the Fast & Furious franchise. However, it also marks the first time that Mia is properly in on the action, and she works with Mia to track down Han in Japan and is involved in one of the best hand-to-hand combat scenes in the entire series. Brewster's filmography also includes appearances in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Lethal Weapon TV show. Outside of being part of the F9 cast and the other Fast and Furious movies, Brewster's most recent starring movie was the sci-fi thriller Simulant.

Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey

Ramsey drives a truck in Edingburgh in F9

One of the newer members of the Fast & Furious saga, Nathalie Emmanuel makes her third appearance as Ramsey in F9. She previously appeared in Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious as the tech genius who invented God's Eye. In F9, Ramsey works closely with Tej and Rome before their space adventure, as she drives the truck that contains the electromagnet and destroys half of Edingburgh in the process. Emmanuel has also starred in the Maze Runner franchise, but she's best known as Missandei in Game of Thrones. Emmanuel will next appear in the long-awaited Francis Ford Coppola epic Megalopolis.

John Cena as Jakob Toretto

Jakob is all bloodied after a fight in F9

John Cena joins the F9 cast as Jakob Toretto, the secret younger brother of Dom. Jakob is a gifted spy and driver who is out to acquire the Ares device to take control of the world. However, like most Fast and Furious villains, he's redeemed by the end of the movie and saves Dom's life. The brothers' relationship is repaired after they realize the lengths they went to help each other without the other one knowing when they were younger. Cena's other movie roles include Trainwreck, Blockers, and Bumblebee. The former wrestler will appear in the Barbie movie as Merman Ken, and Peacemaker season 2 is currently in production.

Anna Sawai as Elle

Elle grins in the back of a van in F9

Anna Sawai's Elle is a girl connected to Han's past and Project Aries. Anna doesn't have a major role in the movie and only has a couple of minutes of screen time. However, her scientist parents are the ones responsible for Project Aries, and they were killed when she was young, so he does have a motive for becoming an ally of Han. Sawai can previously be seen in Ninja Assassin and the TV series Girl/Haji, and she's also a series regular in the AppleTV+ show Pachinko. Sawai could appear in the Fast and Furious all-female spin-off that Vin Diesel has excitedly talked about.

Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Otto

Otto looks angry in the dead of night in F9

Otto is an incredibly wealthy man who is the son of a powerful ruler and partners with Jakob to obtain Project Ares. Given that he's in the same movie as Cipher and Jakob, Otto is a fairly forgettable villain, though Thue Ersted Rasmussen brilliantly plays him as an entitled and spoilt brat. Otto is unintentionally killed when Cipher crashes her remote-piloted jet into the truck he's in. Rasmussen has previously appeared in Sunday and Sygeplejeskolen, but he hasn't been in anything since being part of the F9 cast, and the 2021 film is his most recent acting credit.

Michael Rooker as Buddy

Michael Rooker with a cut nose in F9

Michael Rooker plays Buddy in F9, a mechanic with ties to Dom's past as part of his father's racing team. While not involved in that action, Buddy does play in instrumental role in Dom coming to terms with his past and explains to Dom how Jakob isn't the villain he thinks he is. Rooker is best known for his roles in The Walking Dead as Merle and in Guardians of the Galaxy as Yondu. The actor will star in the upcoming western epic Horizon, which is directed by Kevin Costner, and the upcoming Adam Sandler crime comedy The Out-Laws, which will be available on Netflix later in 2023.

Sung Kang as Han Lue

Han at a BBQ in F9

Han returns to the franchise for the first time in years, but it further retcons the character's death. He debuted in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, where Han's death originally happened, and Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and Furious 7 were prequels in the franchise just so Han could be in them. It's revealed that Mr. Nobody helped Han fake his death so that he could protect Elle and Project Aries. However, the explanation behind faking his death doesn't clear anything up and has only created more plotholes. Kang also featured in the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi as The Fifth Brother, and he could return to the franchise in some capacity in the future.

Charlize Theron as Cipher

Charlize Theron as Cipher in a flight simulator in F9

Cipher is the first villain to return in a second movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, as she was the primary antagonist in The Fate of the Furious. She isn't the primary antagonist of the F9 cast, as she works for Otto and is hired to take down Dom and to retrieve Project Aries. She ultimately fails, but she does kill Otto while she flies an aircraft in a simulator. Theron is seemingly dominating every major movie franchise, as she was also introduced into the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and she'll be starring in her own action movie sequel The Old Guard 2.

The Fast X Movie Cast: Which New Actors Joined The Sequel?

Jason Momoa Aquaman and Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto Fast and Furious

Spoiler Warning for Fast X

Fast X continues the franchise's tradition of involving a ridiculous number of A-listers, with Jason Momoa becoming the tenth movie's mysterious villain. Another impressive addition is Hollywood legend Rita Moreno plays Dom and Mia's grandmother. Other actors who have been introduced in Fast X include, Brie Larson, playing Tess (Mr. Nobody's daughter), Alan Ritchson as Aimes, the new head of The Agency, and Daniela Melchor, playing Isabel, a street racer from Dom's past.

Like Dom's cars in every Fast & Furious movie, more and more stars are showing up to play new and key roles in the blockbuster action franchise with every new installment. Fast X even features more surprise cameos. Pete Davidson gives Roman a drug-filled brownie, Gal Gadot returns as Gisele at the end of the movie, and Dwayne Johnson returns as Hobbs in a post-credits scene. The Fast X cast puts the F9 cast to shame, even if the movie doesn't totally utilize all the actors.
