Cardi B teases her mystery F9 character in a new behind the scenes clip. The latest installment of the Fast & Furious franchise was originally slated to premiere last year, but when the coronavirus pandemic struck in earnest, Universal delayed it to 2021. F9 has already begun to roll out overseas, though it won't arrive domestically until next week. After a year of no major blockbusters, Fast & Furious 9 is expected to help usher audiences back to theaters. The film has already amounted an impressive international total at the box office, though it remains to be seen how it will fare in the U.S.

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 picks up with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) living the quiet life with Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his son Brian. Their domestic peace is disrupted by the sudden reappearance of Jakob (John Cena), Dom's long estranged brother. Jakob has teamed up with Fate of the Furious' Cipher (Charlize Theron) to enact his revenge against Dom, thus setting Dom and his family on another global adventure. The ensemble cast includes a mix of new and returning faces, making for a jam-packed ride.

Rapper Cardi B joined F9 in the fall of 2019, not long after she made her film debut in Hustlers. Her character Leysa has been kept mostly a secret since then, though she's provided some hints in the latest behind the scenes clip from the film. In the video below, Cardi B reveals Diesel is the one who reached out to her about a role, and she immediately jumped at the chance to be in Fast & Furious.

Cardi B didn't give many specifics about her Fast & Furious 9 character, though she did say she's happy to be "representing such a powerful, strong woman." It looks like she shares some scenes with Diesel, and she switches between a stylish white dress and tactical gear for her costume. Most of the footage shown in the clip has Cardi B in what looks like the back of a vehicle, perhaps heading for a major action scene. Based on the snippets above, it looks like she could be playing a new ally for Dom, which could make for some fun interactions.

Cardi B becomes the latest in a line of impressive female characters for the Fast & Furious franchise, many of whom could go on to appear in a spin-off that's in the works. Jordana Brewster recently shared her enthusiasm for the potential all-female movie, which was first developed in 2017. Though it isn't clear if Cardi B will have a future in the Fast & Furious world after F9, there's always a chance of her being brought back if fans respond to her character. As she said in the behind the scenes clip, she has some tricks up her sleeve, so it's best to prepare for anything.
