Vin Diesel has teased a possible title for Fast and Furious 10 that, if true, would continue the series’ trend of dumb movie names in a perfect way. The massively popular franchise returned to the big screens in 2021 with the release of F9: The Fast Saga – itself a bizarre title – which brought in over $700 million worldwide despite pandemic shutdowns and health concerns. The core Fast and Furious series will wrap up with a two-part finale, which will begin with 2023’s Fast and Furious 10.

The Fast franchise’s history of inexplicable titles is almost as old as the series itself. The first film, The Fast and the Furious, was catchy, alliterative, and instantly iconic. Then came the frequently joked about 2 Fast 2 Furious, the spinoff-esque The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, the soft reboot Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast and Furious 6, Furious 7, The Fate of the Furious, and most recently, F9: The Fast Saga. Some of those names have worked more effectively than others, but the only things they all share is a consistent lack of consistency and a wildly broad application of the franchise’s two operative words.

In a recent social media post, Diesel shared a picture of his son post-haircut, with FX shaved into the side of his head. In the caption, the Fast star shared his excitement for the tenth film and expounded on the significance of the number 10 in general, calling it a “divine number” and heavily hinting that FX could be the official name of Fast and Furious 10. If that turns out to be true, which seems highly likely, it would be both another silly title for a franchise that’s full of them, and a perfect name for the saga’s penultimate entry.

If Fast and Furious 10 does end up being called FX, it may not be the whole title. Like Fast and Furious 9, the next film could have some kind of subtitle that’s more reflective of the actual story of the film. But regardless, the bullet point efficiency of FX seems too perfect for the series to pass up. It’s sleek, memorable, and emblematic of the film’s climactic role in the franchise, but it’s still supremely silly, lacking either a Fast or a Furious. All in all, it seems like a perfect title for the upcoming film.

Of course, for all of Vin Diesel’s talk of 10 signifying “the completion of a cycle,” the series will still have to deal with the fact that there’s one more movie still to come after. 11 is an indisputably less round number, and with the saga’s last two films being pitched as two parts of a greater whole, it seems likely that their titles could tie into one another. Whether it’s FX or something else entirely, Fast and Furious 10 should certainly be a fun and ridiculous ride when it arrives.
