Fast and Furious is returning for the first of a two-part-finale with Fast X, bringing back some old and new faces. After many possible “one last rides,” it was confirmed that Fast & Furious 10 and 11 would bring an end to the saga that spanned more than 20 years. From The Fast and the Furious (2001) to F9 (2021), the Fast and Furious franchise has grown bigger both in scale and cast at each installment, to the point that Fast X will be an ensemble of Hollywood stars and the most expensive Fast and Furious movie yet.

Curiously, the first three Fast and Furious movies focused on a small number of main characters – from two to three – with barely any connection between each installment. That started to change when Fast & Furious (2009) reunited Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner for the first time since The Fast and the Furious while also bringing back Letty, Mia, and, thanks to a timeline reordering, Han. The concept of Dom Toretto’s crew was then expanded in Fast Five, which saw the returns of characters from all previous movies, including Brian and Tej from 2 Fast 2 Furious and Gisele from Fast & Furious.

From then on, the Fast and Furious cast continued to receive additions at each movie, and most of the crew put together in Fast Five remained in the franchise. The Rock’s Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Shaw, both who were around up until The Fate of the Furious, exit the main saga to star in their own spinoff, but the also executive producer Vin Diesel was quick to bring John Cena as the new action star of the series. Between well-known faces and characters that only debuted in F9, here is a breakdown of every Fast and Furious character returning for Fast X.

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)

Vin Diesel Fast and Furious

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto has been the face of the Fast and Furious franchise for the last 20 years, especially after skipping 2 Fast 2 Furious and only doing a cameo in Tokyo Drift to return in Fast & Furious. As such, it is no surprise that Dominic Toretto returns in Fast X. Vin Diesel’s star power is one of the reasons why Fast and Furious has remained successful, while Dom Toretto is the one responsible for keeping the family together. F9 made the family themes even more important for Toretto as his brother Jakob returned, and it will be interesting to see how that affects the character going forward.

Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster)

Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto in F9

Mia Toretto is one of the original The Fast and the Furious characters who are still part of the franchise. Mia has been a constant presence in the Fast and Furious movies since Fast & Furious (2009), the only exception being The Fate and the Furious. F9 saw Jordana Brewster’s character taking part in the action, an exciting change after her previous appearances had been very limited. According to Vin Diesel, Fast & Furious 10 originally didn't involve Mia, but fortunately, the character was written back into the story, and Jordana Brewster will return for the first part of the finale.

Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez)

F9

Letty is also one of the original The Fast and the Furious characters. Like Mia, Michelle Rodriguez’s character returned for the first time in Fast & Furious (2009), and after being assumed dead for most of the movie, she was revealed to be alive at the end of Fast Five. Letty eventually reconnected with Dom Toretto, who is now her husband. Letty is one of the pillars of Fast and Furious, and as such, she returns in Fast X.

Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson)

Fast and Furious Tyrese Gibson as Roman

While Tyrese’s Roman was initially written to be a replacement for Vin Diesel’s Dom in 2 Fast 2 Furious, the character became his own thing after returning for Fast Five. Roman is the closest to comic relief in Fast and Furious, and he seems to be the only character who is self-aware about how absurd their adventures have become. In fact, in F9, Tyrese’s Roman almost concluded he was in a movie. Tyrese remained in the franchise even after his feud with The Rock, and Roman is returning for Fast X.

Tej Parker (Ludacris)

Tej Parker driving a car in Fate of the Furious

2 Fast 2 Furious had another legacy for the Fast and Furious franchise, Ludascris’ Tej. Like Roman, Tej returned in Fast Five and has not skipped a movie since. Tej is the hacker of the crew along with Ramsey, and while he dreams of living a peaceful life in his own car shop, Ludacris’s Fast and Furious character is always ready to help. The interactions between Roman and Tej have been a highlight of Fast and Furious, and those will continue as both are returning for Fast X.

Han Lue (Sung Kang)

Han new car fast and furious 9

After F9 finally brought justice for Han, to an extent, it would be hard to imagine Sung Kan’s character not returning for Fast X. Han has been an audience favorite since his debut in Tokyo Drift, to the point Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 were all written as prequels only to make sure Han could appear. Even after the Fast and Furious timeline caught up with Tokyo Drift, there was still a claim for the movies to bring Han back, especially after Deckard Shaw became friends with Dom, and those were heard in F9.

Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel)

F9 Ramsey poses in front of a car

Although Ramsey was introduced halfway through Furious 7, Nathalie Emmanuel’s character has quickly become an essential part of the crew. She surpasses Tej’s hacking skills and has stuck around with Dom and his family even though she is not a fan of driving. Should Fast X continue to deal with the God’s Eye MacGuffin, Ramsey will be there to assist.

Little Nobody (Scott Eastwood)

One surprising Fast X cast announcement is that Scott Eastwood’s “Little Nobody” is returning. The character was introduced in The Fate of the Furious as Mr. Nobody’s assistant but proceeded to be absent in F9. What happened to Mr. Nobody in F9 was not made clear, and Little Nobody’s return in Fast X can make Kurt Russel’s character's fate more clear.

Cipher (Charlize Theron)

Charlize Theron as Cipher in Fast and Furious 10

Charlize Theron’s Cipher has already seen her plans fail twice thanks to Dominic Toretto, but she is up to try again in Fast X. Considering how Jason Momoa’s Fast X character will be a villain, it is impossible to say how big Cipher’s role in the movie will be. There have also been talks of a Cipher spinoff.

Jakob Toretto (John Cena)

John Cena Jakob toretto Fast and furioius 9

John Cena’s Jakob Toretto is the latest addition to the Fast and Furious family. Jakob was revealed to be Dom and Mia’s lost brother, who had returned to take revenge on Vin Diesel’s character. As it has become a tradition in the Fast and Furious movies, Jakob Toretto was redeemed in F9, and John Cena’s character will return in Fast X.

Buddy (Michael Rooker)

Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad star Michael Rooker had a small in F9. He played Buddy, who used to work with Jack Toretto and later raised Jakob. Michael Rooker is confirmed to return in Fast X, meaning that the movie could explore more about Dom and Jakob’s past.

Leysa (Cardi B)

F9 Cardi B as Leysa

F9 had a surprise Cardi B cameo. The music star played Leysa, sister of Fast & Furious (2009)’s character Cara Mirtha. Leysa was sent by Helen Mirren’s Magdalene Shaw to rescue Dom, and the character is confirmed to return in Fast X.
