Rapper Cardi B will return for Fast & Furious 10 said franchise star Vin Diesel, who teased there will be more that will be revealed about her F9 character Leysa. The Fast & Furious franchise has had its share of powerful female characters who have held their own alongside the male-centric core cast. The films have progressed a long way from their initial installments where hijacking trucks and street races were the norms into a hero-based series of films. The supporting cast of women has at times, eclipsed the men in their ability to tackle difficult challenges.
The characters of Mia Torretto (Jordana Brewster) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) have welcomed the strength of strong female actresses to the cast throughout 20 years of Fast & Furious films. These have included Charlize Theron (Cipher), Helen Mirren (Queenie), Gal Gadot (Gisele), Nathalie Emmanuel (Meghan), Ronda Rousey (Kara), Eva Mendes (Monica), and Anna Sawai (Elle). These women have brought great energy to their particular installments. As the movie franchise reaches its finish line, female characters will be highlighted in storylines where they hold their own against their male counterparts. The addition of Cardi B in a dynamic character role will add to the existing raw energy and interest the current female cast members generate. And she'll be sticking around for the future.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, F9 director Justin Lin and Diesel discussed Cardi B's role in the movie and how she answers questions about Dom's past. Both of them confirmed she'll be returning for the next installment. Check out their comments in the space below:
Lin: "I love Cardi, you know? I mean, it's amazing she showed up and within a minute she's part of the family, right? And I love how when I got together with her, her and Vin were talking about the character because she's actually really embedded into the overall universe, she's been around for a long time and this is just the first time we are seeing her, so I'm really excited to explore that character of her."
Diesel: "We are very much excited to evolve her character and to expand it to the finale. She made it just in time. She came in Fast 9 just in time."
Further expanding on the points shared by Lin and Diesel, Cardi said that when Diesel approached her for a role in the film, she jumped at the chance. Cardi said she liked the fact that she is playing a powerful, strong F9 female character with a past linked to Diesel's Dominic Toretto. F9 is set to uncover a lot about Dom's past (specifically with John Cena playing Dom's brother Jakob), so it will be interesting to see what's revealed about Leysa and see her dynamic with Dom unfold.
Cardi surprised fans with her natural acting skills in the role of Diamond in the 2019 Jennifer Lopez led-Hustlers. With that in mind, the hope is Cardi B continues to shine onscreen as she makes the jump to action, and she'll be the latest mainstay in the Fast and Furious franchise. Since the filmmakers were keen to bring her back for Fast and Furious 10, it's safe to assume she made a good impression on the creative team, which bodes well for her having a pivotal role in F9.
