A former Teen Mom star, Farrah Abraham isn't listening to the haters. After followers criticized her for posting a video of herself dancing in a skimpy red bikini, Abraham stated that she wasn't listening to the online shaming and felt completely comfortable in her decision to post the risqué video.
Abraham got her start on the hit MTV reality series after being part of the original cast of TLC's 16 and Pregnant. As a teen, she gave birth to her daughter, Sophia Laurent Abraham, at the age of 17 and then went on to star in many of the Teen Mom spinoffs over the last decade. She returned to the network as part of the Teen Mom OG cast but was let go after she reportedly became rude toward her family, co-stars, and the MTV crew members. Abraham went on to pursue a career in the adult film industry after she left the popular reality series in October of 2017. She has gone on to star in a variety of adult films and make media headlines through wardrobe malfunctions.
Over the weekend, the now-28-year-old former Teen Mom star posted a video on her Instagram of herself in a skimpy red bikini. The video featured a friend playing the violin in the background while Abraham twirled in front of the camera, blew kisses, and shook her hips to the music. Followers immediately noticed that Abraham's daughter, Sophia, was with her on the boat that day. The backlash started immediately, with many social media users immediately criticizing the mom for filming a somewhat racy video in front of her daughter. Fans wrote made their concerns known, writing, "Mom of the year right there!!! I feel so bad for Sophia…you seriously need help!!!" Another follower wrote, "Your 10 yr old watching behind the camera is the worst part."
Despite the immediate backlash, Abraham brushed off the negative comments. In an interview with TMZ, the reality star made it clear that she felt completely at peace with her actions, saying, "I have to say there is nothing wrong with a woman being, like, fully dressed in clothing - if that's a bikini set or whatever." Abraham said. She then gave fans a hint of her signature humility, saying, "I feel like a lot of moms are sex shamed - which I have definitely have been in my life -and I think when I'm single, gorgeous, young and beautiful, I would almost regret looking back at my life not living a happy, outgoing life." Despite her self-congratulatory statements, Abraham had a larger message to communicate. Not only did she feel like she did nothing wrong, but she also felt she was setting an example for her daughter, saying, "I would definitely hope my daughter is never shamed to cover up herself and not be her happiest." When asked if she felt Sophia was growing up too fast, Abraham immediately denied the statement, saying, "My daughter, she's very much her kid self."
Since Abraham has a long history of being very open with her sexuality, it's definitely not the first time she's been accused of setting a bad example for her daughter. However, all things considered, Abraham's video was fairly tame. Her comments about being shamed into hiding her body have a note of truth to them. While other moms may not be so open with her sexuality, it's up to Abraham to decide what kind of example she wants to set for her child. At the very least, Sophia certainly has a strong example of confidence in her mother.
